Well, that's a great question for NBA officials. Considering that we've seen entire benches stand up and count off as Giannis dribbles away those 10 seconds, I'm surprised it took them this long. The 5-step travelling call on him shortly after was also a breath of fresh air.

    Hello there, Grizzlies.
Solid effort from them. They adjusted about half way through the second quarter on offense and Ja was a lot more aggressive. But they just played harder for large stretches of the game.

Brooks is their Clarkson and he had the best possible version of what he can do. Meanwhile Clarkson had a bit of a nightmare game. Mitchell has to come back so Clarkson can go back to his role.

However, if he doesn't have the juice to play his A game on a regular basis, then the Lakers are in trouble.

Like anybody else, he needs a couple of weeks to get acclimated after missing as much time as he did. It was that way for A.D. (he knows he needs to be dominating and he failed miserably). Conley wasn't bad, but he's not acclimated either. Mitchell won't be, either. Injuries have definitely effected these playoffs so far. Harden seems to be able to get acclimated quicker than anyone on the planet. His slow, methodical pace controls things, though he couldn't hit a '3', while there were some bad turnovers.

Refs tried to help. Lakers shot 19 Free Throws before Phoenix shot their first.

How does WAS get 72 points in the paint but only 15 free throw attempts? How did DEN get 52 and only 8? Have a feeling DEN will approach 20 free throw attempts tonight, while WAS gets into the 20's in their next game, too.

Curry and Embiid were a lethal combination in the 3rd Quarter...Joel from the line and Curry from 3 (while PHI made two more 3's in the 3rd besides Curry's).

NYK deserved better than that cheap foul that sent ATL to the free throw line to basically decide the game.

Joe Ingles was intimidated by Brooks and Memphis. No forcing the refs to call a foul for him and get to the free throw line. No forcing the refs to call a foul on him because of over-tenacious Defense. Not willing to go into open areas, yet alone traffic, to get a rebound (only 2 Defensive ones, no free throws attempted, no fouls called against him), timid Offensively taking only 8 shots. No Steals. No Blocks. No positive effect on the game for UTA. They really need Mitchell's swagger, even if he comes in rusty. His attitude and physical play needs to be out there to match MEM's. UTA almost got back into at the free throw line gaining a huge advantage there, but Gobert had to do too much himself and it got him fouled out with way too much time on the clock. The Defense was still good enough. UTA only made one mid-range shot all night. They wouldn't even take them. I know their season-long success has had as a fixture, the NBA's leading 3-pt attempt team as a moniker, but that's at about 40 per game. 47 when they aren't falling at all was a very bad number. Clarkson doesn't have to shoot every time he thinks he's open. He took some horrible shots.

When Mitchell returns, I'd move the shorter O'Neale to the bench rotation with Clarkson, Favors and Niang, and start the taller Ingles against Jackson, a much better matchup than Brooks. Brooks had nothing to do against Ingles Defensively stifling both Ingles' ability to pass, ability to drive and ability to shoot an open '3'. Ingles' Defensive and Offensive abilities will have a much better chance to be used against Jackson. He can hit a cutting Mitchell, Conley or Gobert. He can get that hockey assist that is his trademark. MEM is a young team and they won't hold up in close games that come down to one posession as the series moves on. They don't have a guy like a Mitchell who can hit the clutch shot with under 30 seconds to go. Conley, Gobert and Mitchell could win four straight even if they get down 2-0.

The thing that always bothers me is right after the game, AD comes out with the comments about how he was not assertive enough, and will be the next game. I mean, he could not have maybe realized this at halftime? Also, I have watched that play when Lebron supposedly hurt his arm/shoulder several times and it is being reported that he hit the floor hard and landed on it......but he did not. If anything, he extended it too much when Paul got underneath him a little (which I do not think was a dirty play by Paul). I just hate the Lebron theatrics and fake drama.

If I am the Lakers and someone wants to overpay Schroder next season, then let him walk. Draft a rookie PG and grab a vet like Derrick Rose for a couple seasons. Schroder wanting near $25 Million a year is insane to me unless it is maybe on a 2 year deal. He is a replacement level starter and a good bench player.

It also wouldn't hurt to play McGee when Joker rests. They traded for him, why not play him against traditional bigs?

McGee always kills the Blazers. A real thorn.

    Re: NBA 2021: 3rd Time's the Charm

Results from the first games of 1st Round series rarely have any carryover to the 2nd Game. It's almost like a 2nd Game 1, but the team that lost, especially if they are favored in the series, takes everything up multiple notches. It's almost like they were rudely woke up and reminded that the playoffs have started. You might like to dig deeper and focus.

Anthony Davis, DEN, UTA and the Clippers could all even up their series. There weren't any surprises in the East. Two in the East who lost Game 1 could win with NYK and MIA being the most likely. PHI is going to sweep. Should sweep, but they have had road issues that will be brought up. They'll yank that monkee off their backs and throw him out the window. Nets will just get better and better. BOS gets swept, too. BOS and WAS could win a game or two against anyone in the West, but not against PHI or BKN, probably the two best teams in the NBA. POR will continue to challenge for that as they have performed the best over the last 13 games with 10 of those on the road.

Jimmy Butler is -31 in 14 minutes.

Bucks outscored the heat 46-20 in the first quarter. That's the ballgame.

Heat down 27 at half. Looks like pride isn't kicking in today.

Absurd to wait until a crucial moment in the game to make the call. If you want to make the call, make your point in the first quarter. Don't wait until the fourth and you're baited by the Heat bench. Just spineless officiating.

Jimmy Butler looks broken thus far in the series, just a shell of himself. The whole team is just absent. Bam hasn't played well at all. Herro regressed in his sophomore campaign. Ariza and Iguodala look their age. Hard to find a silver lining through two games, and you have to wonder if they'll just pack it in after tonight.

Jrue Holiday is +38 with 13 assists, as I type. He's been what the doctor ordered for the Bucks.

Jokic figures that if he flops enough times, they are going to call one of them.

Yeah, they should have been calling it all season long. Not sure why they waited until that point in the game.

Holiday to the Bucks was a match made in heaven for the playoffs.

Fun first half in Denver - Portland. Denver was running the trailblazers out of the gym, and then Dame got molten hot. 32 pts with 8 three pointers in a row. And the next two possessions he was fouled and made all four free throws. So Dame is just destroying Denver, and the score has changed from Portland down 17 to down 4. And what does Portland do? CJ decides it’s time he gets a turn to shoot, which he misses. Run over and Portland is down 12 at the half.
They gave up 73 points in a half! No-one on Portland is even trying to play defense (including Dame). This is the most gutless effort for a playoff game. And yet they will say “ we’re still a championship team”. Stotts either sucks as a coach or his team isn’t paying any attention to him
Without Dame, Portland is no better than the Twolves.
