Maybe instead they can dislodge the Joe Nuxhall statue from outside the ballpark and use that instead? Then when the fielding results are horrendous people will look the other way because everyone loves Joe

Forgetting moving Senzel for a minute, if the plan is for Dee Gordon to be the SS, the defensive alignment might be a lot better with Gordon at 2B, Moose at 3B and Suarez at SS. Two of the three positions would be upgraded defensively and I doubt that Suarez would be much worse than Gordon would at SS. Same would happen with Senzel at 2B, but I'm not sure a Winker, Shogo, Castellanos OF is viable.
Lacking an acquisition, Garcia at SS is by far the best option IMO.

The title of the article is "Notes: Suarez, player dev praise, Morgan" and said on Twitter: "Bell addresses the question you all ask frequently. Could Suarez move to shortstop?" then within the first sentence said it's probably not happening. I don't see anything particularly "click baity" about that. He put a teaser out there to let people know he asked the question in the article but wasn't deceptive in any way. I don't know, seems pretty innocuous to me

I could get behind Suarez at SS, but would recognize that most of his value at 3B would be tanked by a significantly below average SS glove. Perhaps shifting would help, but he'd be a 2.0 WAR player at SS (I suspect) even if his bat rebounds to 2019 levels.
That, I suspect, would be more helpful than any other option currently on the Red team (aside from perhaps Senzel at SS), including Garcia. Moustakas could move from 2B to 3B and provide solid range. Senzel and India could then man 2B. (Of course, the OF defense would then take a pretty substantial hit as well.) The batting lineup would look rather solid, though.

What if the Reds simply moved back everyone to the positions they played when drafted or signed as an amateur FA?
C- Joey Votto, Ty Stephenson, Tucker Barnhart
1B- Sean Doolittle
2B- Eugenio Suarez (he played both SS and 2b as a 17 and 18 yr old in Venezuelan Summer ball.)
SS- Mike Moustakas, Alex Blandino, Kyle Holder, Max Shrock, Kyle Farmer, Dee Strange-Gordon
3B- Nick Senzel, Nick Castellanos
LF- Scott Heineman
CF- Mike Lorenzen, Shogo Akiyama, Mark Payton
RF- Jesse Winker, Aristides Aquino
I cannot believe there is actual discussion of Dee Strange-Gordon being in the Opening Day 9.
He hasn't posted a wRC+ over 100 since 2015, not above 80 since 2017.
Per BR, he's was a net-negative on defense for 4 of the past 5 seasons as well.
What could they possibly see in him?
And this is why asking about Suarez is reasonably. He cannot be worse than any solution that involves starting DSG.

I think of early 70's Dave Concepcion. He didn't hit at all his first 2 or 3 years. He became a pretty good bat after that. Garcia could do the same (with more power), but with only six years of control, I hate to waste three of them with him hitting .220. I kind of think he will hit eventually, I just don't think it's this year and maybe not next year either.

Which is why they will manipulate his service time with Kyles/DSG until Garcia is “ready”. I think a little AAA time will be good for him for obvious reasons. Not sure how long I’ll be able to watch Kyle Farmer starting at SS, though. It’s a really dumb predicament Krall has boxed himself into.

Total MLB innings at SS in the last 5 seasons combined, in Reds camp:
Jose Garcia 157.0
Dee Strange-Gordon 113.1
Kyle Farmer 86.2
Alex Blandino 60.2
Eugenio Suarez 24.1
That's less than 50 games of innings combined.
Of course, *some* of these guys have been playing SS at the minor league level But Garcia and Holder are the only "shortstops" in camp by a traditional definition.

He asked a question everyone knows the answer to, then got the answer everyone expected. That’s not news. That’s not reporting. That’s creating a story just to have something to write. Others do it, but Sheldon usually doesn’t.
It’s a fair question to ask, but reporters ask dozens of fair questions every day. Deciding which ones to write about is the key to journalism. No need to write this story, except to stir the pot.
