Greatest pure athletes in Reds history.

My top two weren't even predominantly baseball players

    1. Jim Thorpe
    2. Deion Sanders
    3. Aroldis Chapman
    4. Billy Hamilton
    5. Sean Casey
This is the time. The real Reds organization is back.

Davis was also the first one that come to my mind. Chapman is for sure on the list.

What did Chapman ever do that was athletic except for throwing a baseball? I'd put Joe Morgan in there before Chapman or Billy Hamilton

Frank Baumholtz played pro basketball and for the Reds, Klu could have played pro football or been a great good guy on the pro wrestling circuit. Don Gullett was all state in basketball, baseball and football his senior year, he scored 72 points in one football game

I’d say Griffey and glenn braggs too.

In the late 90s SI piece. Tiger said the only guy who could consistently out drive him was Griffey off the tee.

    "The Midvale Flash".

Baumholtz was from Midvale, OH -- a village outside of New Philadelphia in Tuscarawas County. Legendary Ohio high school basketball coach Gene Ford was also from Midvale, where he was an outstanding all-around athlete. He used to say that the old-timers in Midvale would tell him, "Gene, you're pretty good, but you're no Frankie Baumholtz!"

Baumholtz was also the first Ohio University basketball player to have his number retired (#54).
Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet ya.

Joe Morgan isn't a tenth of the overall athlete Chapman is, imo. Fastest player on any team he is on and gigantic. Also throws a baseball harder than any recorded human I believe.

    Hes a freak athlete.

I should have thought of Gullett. Side story abut his 72 point game in HS. The next week in the Class A playoffs Gullett played my local powerhouse school, Lynch, and they totally shut him down.

Nice one. But he blocked Brady from starting consistently so he somehow is almost a minus.

In all honesty I did not know until I read a book recently that Jim Thorpe was a Red for a year. How cool would that have been to watch? I felt pretty special when I got to see Deion play because of his speed and charisma.

You could imagine Chapman at the top of pretty much any sport. Dude was just a mountain of fast twitch muscle.
