David Bell says Eugenio Suárez has been working at shortstop throughout spring.

From what I’ve been able to see, I’ve noticed Mike Moustakas taking a lot of reps at third on his own. Here are the pieces moving together.

Also, this could open time for Jonathan India.

On the plus side, it does seem like the are not happy with any of the choices at SS so they have tried this spring, which I agree with.

On the negative side, I can’t see Suarez as anything other than an atrocity at SS defensively. The only ray of hope I can see is that Suarez lost some weight, so maybe he’s more agile now than he had been.

Usually, the SS is right up the middle, where most of the balls are hit. The 2B is the one in short RF most of the time.

That said, they might play India up the middle during the shift, since he likely has the largest range. Regardless, if I’m pitching with this infield, I am doing everything to avoid ground balls, and that’s a terrible plan for pitchers in GABP.

But we’ve seen enough in camp and knowing his background, that is his original position being shortstop, we’re going to take this opportunity in camp to see him play a little bit at short and kind of just go from there. If nothing else it’s good for him, and it also creates more flexibility for our infield. We’ve all seen him play a lot of shortstop over the last couple of years in the shift, but obviously starting the game there it’ll be his primary position there tomorrow. When your roster only has major league 3b and 2b starters, might as well put the 3b at short as he'll have the stronger arm, right? Not sure how they can score more runs than they give up.
