    Yaphet Kotto, R.I.P.

Yaphet Kotto reportedly passed away on March 14, age 81. He had a long film career, both in movies and on TV, appearing in among other films The Running Man, Alien and the 1973 James Bond movie Live And Let Die. Earlier today I posted the death of Henry Darrow who starred on TV's High Chaparral. Kotto appeared in a season 2 episode of that western which featured the "Buffalo Soldiers". He had a commanding presence. R.I.P.
"Hey...Dad. Wanna Have A Catch?" Kevin Costner in "Field Of Dreams."

And, of course, Homicide, where his son was played by Giancarlo Esposito.

It is on the whole probable that we continually dream, but that consciousness makes such a noise that we do not hear it. Carl Jung.

One of the most underrated shows ever. From Barry Levinson, the first TV show I remember looking and feeling like a movie.

In it, Kotto played the Lt Holt role and Andre Braugher played the Peralta role.

He and Harry Dean Stanton as the working class stiffs in Alien were brilliant together. Breathed subtle humanity into what could have been a bland, cold set piece. RIP.

Don't think I ever saw Yaphet Kotto in a role in which I didn't love him. Did some great work in blaxploitation films. Still want to find out who the fourth is in the Homicide afterlife card game.

Let's not forget Kotto as FBI man Alonzo Mosely in one of the most re-watchable movies of all time, "Midnight Run."
