If India wore #5 (obviously he can’t) he could go as Johnny 5 from Short Circuit, and every time he gets a hit or makes a great play, the announcer can yell, “Johnny 5 is alive!”

(The India connection is that Fischer Stevens used a terrible Indian accent in the movie)

The best part of the Reds’ early success this year is the play of India and Senzel. Both have played excellent all around ball. Senzel’s offensive stats aren’t quite there, but on the rise.

Along with Hunter Greene, these are the top draft choices of the rebuild, and it’s a big positive if they become solid major leaguers.

Would also note that Senzel, India, and Stephenson are up-the-middle players. You need good two-way players in those positions. Positive development that Reds are producing guys for those spots. Maybe add Garcia reasonably soon.

    Joke?

    Senzel's season-long numbers are .357/ .526/ .571/ 1.097.

Ironically, you kind of illustrate the point.

If we celebrate every time, even the routine good plays, then it diminishes the truly great moments worth celebrating. Or in your case, when you do the whole "exaggerate your counterpoint to the point of ridiculousness" schtick on typical stuff like this, then it loses its bite for topics where that sort of "zing" can truly hit home.

I do understand though. Some cultures are taught that showing off is bad form. Others celebrate it. Age groups are the same. Even genders could be categorized this way. So I get it. And I don't "hate" the excessive celebrations, showing off, etc. I just think it's bad form, and many times, strikes me as poor sportsmanship and lack of respect for your opponent.

I also understand my viewpoint is largely due to the demographics I fall under, and I learned long ago not to measure the world by my own yardstick. But to quote the great Elwood Blues:

    "No... I don't like it."
"Lemonade requires a significant amount of sugar. Otherwise, you've just made lemon juice."

Yeah, but what bothered me about this particular incident is the random weirdo tweeted it to AG.

The site I used for Senzel’s stats was apparently not updated early this morning. Nick was hitting .273 after Tuesday’s game. Point is the same, the two high draft choices are playing good all around ball.

You're probably not familiar with Larry's body of work.

During election years, on political shows where they take callers, sometimes you get a guy that calls in pretending to support a candidate, but he purposely says a bunch of stupid stuff in support of said candidate, with the intention of framing all supporters of said candidate in this corner of ridiculousness. There's a word for this sort of tactic, but I can't think of it right now.

Like if I called in and said, "I support so-and-so, because he's gonna kill all the squirrels, and the moon is made out of cream cheese." Then, folks listening to this will think, "hey that guy is ridiculous, I don't agree with that at all, maybe I should change my mind about so-and-so and vote for his opponent instead."

Satire, is of course, the weakest form of argument, but this particular brand of satire can actually be quite effective with folks that don't do a lot of critical thinking. Which, of course, is most of the world.

I'm going to keep using "The Red Sparrow".

Reminds me of "The Flying Dutchman". When nicknames meant something as opposed to the ESPN'ing of nicknames.

India is 3-17 with 0 XBH since his 3 hit game on April 6th. OPS is down to .812.

Anyone who supports a corrupt movement to disenfrancise millions has no business calling anyone on "cancel" anything.

I've found that picking contrarian positions to posters you have grudges against and inventing hot takes to feel novel and then inventing disparate, confused, and conflicting arguments on the fly to support them is the strongest form of argument. I learned this by reading the great works from noted non-satirists Ray Bradbury and Aldous Huxley.
