The Louisville Bats 2024 campaign is off and running. They are facing the Indianapolis Nobodies.
Carson Spiers earned the Opening Day starting assignment. He has faced the minimum through two innings, 6 up and 6 down. Spiers has struck out two.
The Bats offense has yet to get untracked as they have 6 men to the plate over the first 2 innings, without a single batter reaching base.

CORRECTION: Actually, this lineup is incorrect. Hernan Perez is playing short, and Francisco Urbaez is at 3rd.

Indianapolis plates a pair in the top of the 3rd on a walk and a 2-out home run. Bats trail 2-0.
Bats go down meekly again in the 3rd. A fly to left and 2 Ks.

Indy hangs up another 2-spot in the top of the 4th. Spiers was not hit hard, but that is baseball.
Hurtubise, Perez and Dunn are up for the Bats in the bottom half of the inning. They trail 4-0.
Hurtubise gives one a ride but the centerfielder makes a great running catch for a loud out.
Hernan Perez. CRACK! Goodbye, baseball. 4-1 game. A 425 foot bomb.
Blake Dunn whiffs. He has been punched out in both of his trips to the dish.
Higgins reaches on an E-4 to keep the inning alive. (Gameday has scored this a hit for the moment).
Doesn't matter as a force play ends the inning.

Into the top of the 5th, Casey Legumina is up in the Bats bullpen.
First two Indianapolis reach. More trouble. And there will be a change on the mound.
A single makes it 5-1, but Legumina shuts things down after that.

Bottom 5 - Hinds strikes out for the second time on the night. Connor Capel has now singled.
With 2 gone, Urbaez doubles down the line. 5-2 Indianapolis.
Sam Moll, down in the River City on a rehab assignment, is up and throwing in the pen.
Hurtubise works a walk. Two on and two out. Perez walks. Baseball full for Blake Dunn.
Dunn singles to drive home a pair. 5-4 now.
Higgins gets plunked and the bases are full again.

2 run single with the bases loaded by Higgins. 9-7 now
Gotta love first game of the season ERA's.... Indy pitcher McLure got one out (a bunt) and gave up 5 (2 on are his as well) and leaves with a 135 ERA.
Hinds, trying to hit a second HR of the inning swung at the first 3 pitches he saw... missed them all by at least a foot. 3rd strikeout of the night.
9-7 Bats after 6.5
9-7 Bats after 7. Wasted a bases loaded, 1 out situation.
Still 9-7 after 8.
Santillan busting 98mph balls everywhere. Gave up a hr on a 99mph fast ball to former MLB Jake Lamb and a pop up single while striking out the side.
HR aside, he looks pretty sharp and the velocity is much better than last year.
