    Reds Breakout Player for 2021

Do we still do breakout players? Because I have one.

    Sal Romano.

He was completely unrecognizable last time I saw him pitch, and he's the biggest proof of concept Boddy has. If they have re-worked his delivery to add spin and movement to his pitches, maybe, just maybe, he can be an asset in the pen. Maybe even more than just an asset. He throws pretty hard.

India is the easy answer, but he's a former 1st round pick. He's supposed to be where he is right now.

I like Sal, but he'd be my last choice.

I'll say Nick Senzel puts it together this year. I think the offense will do well this year India and Stephenson could break out as well. I think we'll see the complete opposite of last year. The team will score runs but will give too many away. They'll lose a lot of games 8 to 6 instead of 3 to 1 this year IMO.

    Jose De Leon.

The raw stuff is great, control/command has been the issue, but he has had no problem racking up the strikeouts. Boddy had high praise for him in a Reds AMA, much like he did Antone last year.

Mahle breaks through and becomes a top NL starter, helped a bit by the "deflated" baseball causing him to not give up nearly as many home runs as he's prone to do.

I don't know if this counts, but I'll say Joey Votto. I think he's got one last great season in him. (This is completely wishful thinking but a .400 OBP, 30 homers season would be icing on the cake and no one expects it).

Jonathan India. Risky selection, no MLB experience, could prove to be unready.

But I always thought he was being underrated, quality prospect, will be rooting for him.

Bold prediction. Senzel, India and Stephenson all break out proving the we got nothing in the rebuild guys severely incorrect.

I like Mahle and didn't consider him because I already think he's good. He could step forward though,

Every Rookie of the Year has at least limited MLB experience.

There are a few potential reasons India made the Opening Day roster such as:
    A) The team was just way too fearful to spend any money for 2021 because they lost $50 million last year and went into debt to pay operating expenses
    B) Krall is an idiot and couldn't sign the marquee SS (the RZ preferred scenario, I'm guessing) so now they're on plan B
    C) Suarez's new Richard Simmons Jazzercize, Arepa/beer free routine made it truly possible for him to move to SS and convinced the FO that there was just no need to spend the cash
    D) India turned a corner in a big way and pushed his way into the starting nine.

I'm going to suspend reality for a little bit and go with...no, never mind, the scenario simply has to be B. So I'm going with Winker as the breakout guy this year.
Next Reds manager, second shooter. --Confirmed on Redszone.

I think Garrett may emerge as a bullpen diamond.

Simply by making the opening day lineup, India already has already won this. Some people were calling him a bust, two months ago.

    Malhe and Senzel.

I expect India and especially Stephenson will take a little time to settle in.

Maybe Winker could be considered as well, if he can put together a full-season of really good offense.

Mahle's my pick too. Senzel is the other. If they both bust out, it's hard to imagine the Reds won't be good.
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.
