People wait in line for hours, pay absurd prices for a ticket to the Reds opening day. It’s not about the parade. It’s about the tradition of being at the first game of the season. If it’s played months later, all of that is gone, and you have around 50K pissed off fans.
So make it a doubleheader the next day. How often is there a rainout? There was one a few years ago then in 2000 when the game was played but called because of rain and it ended up a tie game.

The Reds aren’t going to lose the revenue from a game when they don’t have to.

Opening Day in Cincinnati is a local holiday with over a century of tradition. It’s deserves special treatment.

Jamieson Tallion is making the start for the Yankees. His first start in 707 days, following significant surgeries.

The Reds played games after OD for years. I only saw this start happening around the mid 80s maybe. It became a traditional thing to skip the day after OD only in the last 30 years. Not sure who or why it started happening more as there were even less rainouts happening back then. The only bad OD I recall is 1985 vs Montreal in a snowstorm

I’ve watched a few extra innings so far this year, and each time it makes me hate the rule a little bit more.

It feels like t-ball, or celebrity softball, with most of the required skill taken out of it.

No the 1970s Big Red Machine days also had an off day after Opening Day. This has been a long standing tradition. I went to most of those Opening Days. I will say I rarely remember a postponement.

Wasn’t 77 against the Padres and 78 vs the Astros 4 days in a row? I can’t check baseball ref right now. It was easier to schedule and play DH back then too. For more days off the players had to ok scheduled DH before the owners needed the money and said no. The players were in agreement.

If this happened to Cincinnati, I'd be absolutely furious. Hell, I'm kind of furious it happened to Miami.

It’s in the rule book. Umps never call it. That was the most blatant I’ve seen in awhile, and at such a crucial point of the game.

    From MLB rule book:

A hit-by-pitch occurs when a batter is struck by a pitched ball without swinging at it. He is awarded first base as a result. Strikes supersede hit-by-pitches, meaning if the umpire rules that the pitch was in the strike zone or that the batter swung, the HBP is nullified

Still stuck out his elbow for a bases loaded HBP. We got a good laugh out of it at the time. So I'm going enjoy my glass house and refrain from tossing that stone.

If the pitch was a strike and it was the winning run in the 9th, we would at least feel guilty about it.
