My contrarian hot take (and I may get flamed for this) is that the Reds spend too much on the major league roster.

They are close to the bottom of the league in revenue, but usually middle of the pack on ML payroll. That extra payroll comes from somewhere, and even I am not naive enough to think that comes from ownership.

So I wonder if they spend less on scouting, development, and analytics than even "thriftier" teams.

I may do some more digging later.

I mean they can afford both, and so can all the teams being cheaper than them

Cardinals are calling up someone named Lars Nootbaar and that's the best/worst name I've heard in a while.

I'm also pretty sure that's the name of someone in the Star Wars prequels.

Maybe the Cards will sign Nuke Laloosh and call him up to pitch!

That's the most Star Wars name we've had in MLB since Jett Bandy disappeared...

Scherzer has now been searched for substances 3 times tonight, I believe.

Girardi asked the last time, presumably to try and throw him off his game.

Managers are going to abuse the hell out of this when pitchers are on a roll and/or they're losing late in the game.

Sal Romano is out of the same high school as Rob Dibble. Dibble was nearly a St. Louis Cardinal. The Cards drafted Dibble in 1982, bought did not sign him. The next year Dibble was drafted and signed by the Reds. In Dibble's first year in the minors, he pitched 50.1 innings, walking more than he struck out 29-24.

In the 80s Southington, CT had a rep for being a town full of wannabe HS movie villains. Like, wall-to-wall Billy Zabka clones. Dibble was pure Southington Man. Sal seems to be a child of a kinder, gentler Southington.

Dibble would totally have swept the leg.
