Think the lottery is an outstanding idea. Hope some judge doesn't end it.
All the minor league teams follow the MLB rules which state you must have mask on unless eating or drinking. I went to 3 games last week. About 80% ignored by patrons, and totally unenforced by staff. As it should be. Not an outdoor transmission disease.

Today's bogey to keep the 7 day moving down is 47,819. Should be very doable based on recent days. Declines are coming up on a month, so it will be interesting to see if we can keep that going beyond this week. If we can, the number will start to look really small (which will be happiness all around). Florida, Texas and Michigan are all moving in the right direction, but those are the three that need to move their case numbers significatly lower to keep the national momentum going.
Next up: getting those death numbers consistently below 500.

I guess I'm not into lotteries. When I get an e-mail for something like filling out a survey or something, if it's a straight out offer, I'll consider it and I may or I may not, depending on the offer. If it says "enter for a chance to win..." I say forget it. I won't win that.
I think it’s a sad reflection of Ohio that they think a lottery is a better incentive for some of its citizens to get vaccinated than just actual cash incentives.

Will COVID-19 Vaccines Still Work Against The Variant From India?
The world has a new coronavirus mutant spreading from one continent to another — and it looks like a tough one to stop.
The World Health Organization declared Monday the variant that emerged in India, known as B.1.617, is officially a "variant of concern."
"There is some available information to suggest increased transmissibility of B.1.617," the WHO's Marie Van Kerkhove said Monday from Geneva. Last week, NPR published a story explaining why B.1.617 could be the fastest-spreading mutant on the planet.
At the same time, researchers around the globe have been rushing to figure out if the COVID-19 vaccines available will still be effective against this new mutant. Some preliminary data, published on Sunday and Monday, offers a glimmer of hope.

Some comments inching in the right direction!
People who have been vaccinated against the coronavirus "don’t have to wear a mask outside," Dr. Anthony Fauci said Thursday, adding that it would only be necessary for "a very unusual situation."
"If you were vaccinated, you don’t have to wear a mask outside," he said on CBS "This Morning." "It would be a very unusual situation if you were going into a completely crowded situation where people are essentially falling all over each other. Then you wear a mask. But any other time, if you are vaccinated and you are outside, put aside your mask, you don’t have to wear it."
CDC is also about to put out guidance that vaccinated people don’t have to wear masks indoors too.

And here it is. No masks indoors unless very crowded and no outdoor masks even in crowds if you’re fully vaccinated. Plus in Ohio you can win $1M. Let’s go!
Sweet. I can enjoy my first Wichita Wind Surge game tomorrow night without a mask.
Awesome!
I think California is a bit behind the CDC guidance, but that is good news.

I'm going to be in Vegas with my wife and another couple Memorial Day weekend. Unlikely, but it would be awesome if we could show our vaccine cards if it's just the four of us at a table and play without our masks. We haven't seen our friends since before the pandemic (World Series 2019), and it will be so much better without masks. To be clear, seeing them and still being required to wear masks is still 99.9% better than not seeing them at all. I'm just greedy and going for the 0.1%!
CDC director says fully vaccinated people can participate in indoor or outdoor activities — large or small — sans mask or social distancing. "If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing."
