With that bullpen, I have adjusted my expectations to slightly better than the Pirates.

such a shame. they absolutely would be for real if this bullpen was just average. not even good, just average.
instead, it's the worst bullpen the reds have had in my lifetime.

11.11% of the season gone, Reds 9-9 with a +17 RD
Seems real to me and frankly, more than I expected.
Personally, it's good to get around the league before assessing. The Diamondbacks own the Reds like the Reds have owned the Pirates, not sure what that really says about all three clubs in the third week of the season

A week ago I was feeling a bit embarrassed about my guess of the Reds only winning 75 games. After several years of unrealistic optimism, I think I have finally embraced reality.

That's why it's a marathon, not a sprint. And also why they're harder to "predict". Far more room for error vs last season's 60 game sprint.

You're never quite as good as you look on a winning streak and never quite as bad as you look on a losing streak. They're the team we thought they were in spring training. It's a nice collection of guys who don't quite add up to a baseball team. A lot of guys playing either out of position or at the edge of where they should be on the defensive spectrum. Pitching that isn't an improvement over last year's team. Lots of guys with a long history of injuries who true to form can't stay in the lineup.
But they are certainly scoring runs. While the pitching isn't and improvement over last year's team, there are bright spots to build around. Suarez at shortstop IS a more creative solution than playing Farmer/Holder which is what I was pretty sure was going to happen.
If you had told me a month ago that after 20 games this would be a 500 club, I would have taken that. It's not the worst team ever assembled down by the river, but even if they slip into a playoff slot I don't like their chances when they are playing good teams day in and day out. Perhaps I'll feel differently come September/October.
"Even a bad day at the ballpark beats the snot out of most other good days. I'll take my scorecard and pencil and beer and hot dog and rage at the dips and cheer at the highs, but I'm not ever going to stop loving this game and this team and nobody will ever take that away from me."
