Since the current Reds have me thinking back on 1990 just because. And because India is putting me in mind of a certain be-goggled 3b, i found myself trying to remember Sabo's first few years. My trip down memory lane now augmented w/ a check of Baseball Reference...

Did you know as a rookie in 1988 he stole 46 bases? FORTY SIX. The game was different back then.

Did you further know, in the magical 1990 year he went 25/25? 25 HR and 25 SB? Backed that up with a 26/19 campaign in 1991.

1988 - 1991 were his age 26-29 seasons.

Guy absolutely made the most of his late arrival.

Chris Sabo was a shooting star of awesome.

At least one year, Sabo stopped off in North Carolina on his way to spring Training and worked out with the Davidson College baseball team. I can't remember if there were other Reds with him. The Davidson coach at the time was a former Dodger scout, Jim Stoekel, but after he left Davidson he joined the Reds and became the head of the Reds International Operations.
