Unfortunately, yes. I have Nord VPN, and everything worked beautifully on my Shield TV up until Wednesday.
Now, if I use the Nord app on my Shield and the MLB app, it gives me the blackout message. I can still turn on the VPN on my computer and “cast” it to my Shield, and that seems to work, but the quality is a bit annoying.
I can only posit that either somehow the VPN app on the android TV isn’t doing it’s job, or the MLB app on there can now detect VPNs. Not sure if anyone else is having this issue or not, but it sounds like I’m not the only one.
I have three different VPNs.
I tried iPad and iPhone and windows laptop
None work tonight

yeah, we were talking about this in the game thread. MLB is stupid, but of course the one thing they got "smart" about was their fans using VPNs to get around their ridiculous restrictions.
I never could get NordVPN to work using the MLB App (Roku). And I'm assuming because the only IP you get in Roku settings will be the private IP of the router (network) the Roku is wifi'ing with. A public IP is needed for location. So if MLB can't find that public IP, can't locate you, then they black you out. Again, an assumption on my part.
But when I use either the desktop or laptop, where the VPN is installed, I get MLB.TV fine, no blackout, and then use an HDMI to the TV.

No issues with Private Internet Access so far this year.
This looks like a good streaming option, thanks for sharing. These streaming sites are decent options, certainly given the fact that they're free. You really just need to make sure you have good ad-blocking, anti-spyware and anti-virus software installed on your machine, and that you've got all the latest security updates installed. If you're not tech savvy enough to do that, then I wouldn't recommend the streaming sites because as others have noted, they are loaded with ads and spyware.
Accessing MLB.tv over VPN is how I've been watching this year, with streaming sites as a backup if I don't feel like fooling with VPN or don't have access at game time. I wanted to share one thing I haven't seen mentioned in this thread for anyone that may want another option to watch the reds on roku/appletv/amazon firestick/etc.
This is somewhat technically involved, but ultimately not that bad if you really want to watch the game on your big screen with the best quality possible. The site shared below shows how to both setup VPN on your physical router, so that anything connected to the router will be on VPN, but also how to turn your pc or mac into a wireless hotspot, so you can connect to vpn on that device, and then share the VPN connection over wireless to any device you want, by connecting to the wireless hotspot you created. I specifically used the instructions detailed in the "Virtual Router on Windows" section, and this has been working great for me, including last night when some folks mentioned they were having issues. Again the benefit of doing this is that you get the game in crystal clear HD through the MLB.tv app on your device (in my case on roku, but this method works for others also), better than just casting from or hdmi connecting from your vpn enabled laptop to tv.
Instructions here for anyone that may be interested - https://www.vpnranks.com/reviews/nordvpn/roku/
It's amazing what we have to go through just to watch the dagum game
Thanks for the virtual router suggestion! I'm going to try and set this up to try tonight, being that I have Nord.

I switched to Nordvpn on my laptop and switched the time zone setting to match the site selected and have the game for now at least
