They wouldn't have upgraded it , even if Lorenzen was out all year.
Barring a miracle run in June, like going 18-10 or something like that, the Reds should focus
on adding guys to help them next year.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

Michael Lorenzen will begin throwing off a mound next week. He's throwing up to 120 feet on flaground tomorrow.

Lorenzen says returning by the All-Star break is worst-case scenario in his mind. He wants to return by the end of June.

"It's LIKE trading for someone" is the Reds version of the Bengals saying, "it's like getting two first round picks in one year!" when last year's first rounder is finally "healthy"

Wonder if the expected return of Lorenzen in several weeks will be the Reds’ main answer to the bullpen shortage.

I'm sure they'll male a waiver claim or two and maybe a guy from independent ball.

Maybe the DBacks or Orioles will let go of good pitchers due to a “roster crunch.”

Lorenzen returning would be an unambiguous positive, so while I get the cynical view regarding getting more help I don't think his hopefully impending return should be written off or anything.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

He had arm problems. He's a question mark at best. He shouldn't be Plan A for a team wanting to win. I'm still skeptical that this team is really a contender, so I'm OK with then not expending any resources, but if they do continue the roll they've been on, they should get somebody. Maybe take on a contract to do so in lieu of sending talent. .

I expect to see some rust on Lorenzen but also for him to be better than half the guys they’ve thrown out there no matter how he looks.

Michael Lorenzen told David Bell that he was thrilled with his bullpen session yesterday, so he continues to progress in Arizona. Lorenzen hopes to return by late June/early July.

    Charlie Goldsmith @CharlieG__

Michael Lorenzen could be pitching in rehab games before the All-Star break, and David Bell said those rehab appearances will likely be one inning.
Lorenzen is heading to the bullpen.
    C. Trent Rosecrans @ctrent

Michael Lorenzen will make a rehab start in Arizona soon and then go to Louisville and pitch an inning one or tow times starting July 6, David Bell said. He added there's an "outside chance" he could join the team right before the break.

The #Reds today sent RHP Michael Lorenzen (right shoulder) to the Arizona Complex League Reds on a rehab assignment.

Additionally, OF Scott Heineman has cleared waivers and been outrighted to Louisville.

The rehab assignment of #Reds RHP Michael Lorenzen has been transferred from the Arizona Complex League to Triple-A Louisville.

Lorenzen threw a perfect inning with two strikeouts in his only appearance in Arizona on July 1.
