Those were awful, too. Faux vests, and pinstripes on gray uniforms. The goofy wing logo was much worse than the halo on the A.
Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet ya.

Angels added Scott Schebler to their roster yesterday, based on that alone I’m gonna say the Reds are a better team.

On a side note, the Angels of my youth always seemed like they were old. Every guy on that team seemed like he was somewhere between 35 and 39. Perpetually.

Not sure how old you are, but you are exactly right with that assessment. Gene Autry, Buzzie Bavasi, and Gene Mauch liked their veterans -- the 1982 AL West Champion Angels had an average age of 32.5, and every starting position player was at least 30 years old. (Fred Lynn was the youngest, at 30.)

Starting Lineup (age in parentheses; every one of them played at least 138 games and had at least 528 PA's):
    C Bob Boone (34)
    1B Rod Carew (36)
    2B Bobby Grich (33)
    3B Doug DeCinces (31)
    SS Tim Foli (31)
    LF Brian Downing (31)
    CF Fred Lynn (30)
    RF Reggie Jackson (36)
    DH Don Baylor (33)

    Bench:
    C Joe Ferguson (35)
    1B/3B Ron Jackson (29)
    2B Rob Wilfong (28)
    SS Mick Kelleher (34)
    OF Juan Beniquez (32)
    OF Bobby Clark (27)

Other position players who made appearances:
SS Rick Burleson (31; season-ending injury)
    1B Daryl Sconiers (23; September call-up)
    2B Jose Moreno (24; September call-up)
SS Bobby Adams (23; September call-up)
OF Gary Pettis (24; September call-up)

Only three players under 30 had more than 16 plate appearances that season:
    Ron Jackson -- 159 PA's
    Rob Wilfong -- 111 PA's
    Bobby Clark -- 93 PA's

    Pitching Rotation:
    Geoff Zahn (36)
    Ken Forsch (35)
    Mike Witt (21)
    Steve Renko (37)
    Bruce Kison (32)

    Bullpen:
    Doug Corbett (29)
    Luis Sanchez (28)
    Dave Goltz (33)
    Andy Hassler (30)
    Don Aase (27)

    Other pitchers who made appearances:
    Angel Moreno (27)
    Tommy John (39)
    Luis Tiant (41)
    Rick Steirer (25)
    John Curtis (34)
    Stan Bahnsen (37)
    Mickey Mahler (29)

I've never quite understood where their draw comes from. Is it Irvine and Long Beach? Are they pulling in fans from Riverside and San Bernardino?
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.

Correct. Which is why they changed their name to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. They want to be part of the LA market, but the Dodgers have that locked up. There are some Angel fans in Los Angeles, most of their fans are in the South Bay area, which is much smaller.

Their market is the 'Anti-Dodger' fans.
    Go Gators!
