Aquino to the 10-Day IL. Schrock called up

The #Reds today placed on the 10-day IL, retro to Wednesday, OF Aristides Aquino (left hamate fracture) and recalled from the alternate training site IF Max Schrock. Aquino this morning had surgery to remove the hook of the hamate in his left hand.

Bad break for Aquino.. Didn't the Reds have another guy with a bad hammate bone.. Was it Kearns? And the injury robbed him of power for about a year? Hopefully the same does not happen to Aquino. Power is really the only thing Aquino brings, if he loses that, he's done.

Note: not a prediction that it will happen, just a fear. I hope it does not happen.

Yep I looked it up. It was Yonder Alonso that had the hamate surgery.

I'd guess Schrock might just be here till Shogo is ready. I'd like to see him get some playing time, he looked good in spring.

Hopefully he is more like Griffey in 1996 when he broke is hamate and came back in mid July and hit 26 HRs the rest of the way.

Reds now with three IF backups, though Farmer can play emergency corner OF and Shogo will return fairly soon.

Schrock improves L/R bench balance, especially when Barnhart is catching. Only Naquin was a lefty on the bench for those games when Aquino was active.

Too bad for Aquino, he really needs a chance to play regularly some place, now he’s injured, not the best situation for him.

The beat writers say that Aquino hurt his hand on a swing in his last AB against the Giants. Bell says he is predicted to be out 5-6 weeks.

That stinks for Aquino. Probably would have had a shot at starting tonight's game. Lose a power bench bat. I have not saw Schrock play as I didn't get any spring games .
