Sal Romano is a minor leaguer. He has an ERA over 5 and has allowed 4 HR in 12 innings this season and he's still on the team because there just isn't anyone any better on hand to replace him. This team needs to make a deal for a major league reliever.
didn't they lose $1.5M? which, for this cash-strapped team, is nothing to scoff at.

    Most MLB contracts aren't guaranteed

I think it's the opposite and all *major league* contracts are guaranteed.

Players who obtain Major League contracts -- either via free agency or extensions -- are guaranteed the full amount of money promised by those contracts. Conversely, players signed to Minor League contracts must earn a spot on the roster in Spring Training or via an in-season promotion in order to have their contracts guaranteed.

Reds would argue they guaranteed Bedrosian and Doolittle each $1.5 million and if either one works out, it’s worth it.

I think he accepted the assignment to the alternate site. I am not positive though.
So at least he's still "working" for them lol.
If we're really lucky, we might get to see him again later in the season.

EDIT: correction, a later post said he took FA.

Maybe it is just wishful thinking, but it wouldn't surprise me, between the crazy amount of walks and the HR's he just didn't look himself. The stuff was there at times so hopefully it is something mechanical he can get sorted out.

The sad thing is there is no one else down there to call up. Romano doesn't belong in the big leagues. If Bedrosian goes down and throws regularly and gets himself together, he'll probably be back.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Yea,I saw Bedrosian about 2 or 3 years ago , when he was pitching for the Angels. He looked fantastic back then.
I was actually excited when the Reds signed him. Hopefully he can get some work in and improve whatever is wrong.

Mth, I kind of agree with you that he's likely to be back up at some point, whether he's ready or not, just due to lack of depth.
I mean, honestly.. let's say a reliever gets put on the DL today.. there's really not another viable option other than Bedrosian to call up that's likely to be any better. I really don't want to rush Greene or Lodollo.

    Per Nightengale Twitter:

#Reds announce that Cam Bedrosian has elected free agency. He was outrighted off the 40-man roster on Monday

Nonsense. There are some VERY interesting people to call up. Riley O'Brien, Ryan Hendrix. And once his suspension is over Guttierrez. It may be over now.

Cam Bedrosian has chosen free agency, #Reds say. The team still hopes he'll return

Yes, the Reds will owe him every single penny of that 1.5M$ this year (minus anything he might make if he is signed to a new mlb contract with another club - which will likely be the pro-rated league minimum if he's able to find a new deal).

And he was allowed to elect free agency because he's been outrighted twice now.
