Maybe we pump the breaks a bit, or just drop the caps? Hendrix has serious control issues and has never pitched above AA (19.1 IP in AA). Similar idea with O'Brien; never pitched above AA, very unproven. Optimistically, both were really good in A-ball.

There is no cavalry on the horizon coming to save this bullpen. It's just more crap to throw against the wall.

That's nonsense. They don't need more guys to compete for mop-up duty. They need somebody t9 go with Antone and Sims to help this team win games. Every team has a camp filled with suspects. I'm talking about actual good relievers.

I'm not interested in intersting. I'm interested in reliable.

Garrett will come back and have a hot streak at some point. Doolittle is pitching well.

I agree on Doolittle and I hope Garrett recovers from whatever his problem is (I think it's his head personally, but that's only judging from a few quotes and watching him choke which isn't really enough information to reach a conclusion). Even if they do, even four guys isn't enough to cover 4 innings every day. There will be filler innings where the other relievers can pitch, but if a team plans on contending, there will be a lot of innings that matter late in games and I don't think even four reliable arms is enough to cover that. Somebody needs to step up from nowhere (maybe Fulmer or Perez) and/or somebody needs to be acquired even if Doolittle and Garrett prove reliable. One or two spots for guys we hope for or want to develop is fine. Four spots is way too many. Romano, Perez, Fulmer and Deleon make up half the pen. That's too many attempts at lightning in a bottle for a contender IMO. Even Doolittle was a gamble coming into the season.

They should put Garrett back into middle relief until he gets it together, and at that point the combination of Antone, Sims, and Doolittle will probably be locking down the 9th and Garrett can remain in middle relief.

I don’t think it’s a given that Garrett will go on a hot streak. I mean as mentioned earlier, the guy does have a 5 career ERA at this point.

I think it’s entirely possible that the league has learned to lay off his slider that he can’t seem to throw for strikes and sit on his arrow straight fastball. If that’s the case, he might be toast.

But yeah I’m not pitching him in any scenario where the game is close at the moment. Might not have a choice some days though because I think I’d still rather have him on the mound than Romano or De Leon.

Nah. His ERA as a reliever is around 4, including this season. He said himself he is struggling with his slider this year. He had a short spring training. I think it's much more likely than not he rights the ship and goes on a heater.

The Oakland A’s signed veteran right-handed reliever Cam Bedrosian to a minor league deal Friday in a deal that could provide depth for a weary bullpen. Bedrosian, a longtime member of the Angles bullpen, will join the A’s Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas.
