Suspended game: What would you do?

Poll coming. Some percentages were rounded.

When the game ended last night, it was the top of the 8th. The Snakes had the bases loaded, one out, leading by one. The Reds win expecantcy is 15.5%. According to the stat site, there's a 66% chance the Snakes will score at least one run (based on historical data, this does not take into account the current pitcher or current hitters).

If the Reds are able to get out of the inning without giving up any runs, their win expectancy rises to 29%. If they give up one run, their win expectancy is about 15%.

So, if you are Bell, do you leave Sims in , and hope he puts out the fire? Or do you pull Sims so he's available for the second game. If you pull Sims, you can say who you'd put in.. but keep in mind, Garret and Antone have already been used, so not much left to pick from. If you are a fan of Dolittle, that's ok, but I am not sure if he could pitch the final 1 2/3 innings if the Reds were to come back and tie or get ahead.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

    Leave him in.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Suspend those idiot umps out that allowed the game to continue and risk players safety just because they didn't want to come back early the next day and work. Wah wah...

Leave him in. You know that you need him in the suspended game. You might not need him in game two.

By the 3 batter rule he needs to face one more batter

Interesting, I didn't think of that. I wonder if MLB considered suspended games when they made that rule.

I protest the game before I do anything. The level of absurdity was off the charts.

Probably not. But things like this tend to make rules the following year look like this:

    Rule 12.0
    Rule 12.0 (A)

Pdoc weighs in on last nights weather fiasco.

Check out this article from Cincinnati.com:

Doc's Morning Line: If the Cincinnati Reds miss the MLB Playoffs by a game, whoo boy

    https://www.cincinnati.com/story/spo...fs/7319199002/

I’ve watched a lot of ballgames and that was one of the most absurd game conditions I’ve ever seen when the umps insisted on continuing play with no apparent reason. Sims essentially refused to pitch anymore while Barnhart was b*tching up a storm (or about the storm) to the home plate ump.

I watching the game on delay and was not in the game thread....I am usually in the camp of why are they going to delay so soon? But wow. It was coming down in a torrent and they were still playing. Couldn't believe it.

Re: Suspended game: What would you do?

I would think it would depend on how he feels. If not Sims, I'd like to get someone in there who is the most likely to give up a ground ball to get out of the inning. Of course with this defense, a double play is no sure thing even on an easy ground ball.

Re: Suspended game: What would you do?

Ideally you want the guy with the highest chance to strike the first batter out. Definitely would use Sims, and if he's game, let him pitch the 9th too.

Re: Suspended game: What would you do?

Good responses.. Let's assume the 3 batter rule is not an issue, and it was my choice.
    I'd probably pull Sims.

#1. I don't want him entering a game with only a 15% win expectancy with our pen being as thin as it is. He's likely to be worked hard this year, and I would rather have him available for the next game with Mahle starting.

#2. That had to be a miserable experience for him last night. He's already "Taken one for the team".. I'd rather him move past last night, and it would help if he didn't have to re-enter that travesty of a game.

    From Goldsmith Twitter:

David Bell says Lucas Sims does not have to go back out when the game resumes.

He had only faced two hitters, but the three-batter rule doesn’t apply after a suspended game.

Lets just call it a game and go back to the old rules and the game reverts back to the last full inning completed.
