    The bullpen

    Well it’s a disaster folks.

I think a lot of us were hanging our caps on the hopes of Johnson and Boddy being able to shine up a bunch of turds into a respectable bullpen.

The bad news: that’s not happening. Perez just got whipped in extras, DeLeon is mixed results at best but mostly bad aside from garbage innings, Fulmer looked like crap today.

The worse news: even the guys who were supposed to be good have sucked. Garrett has obviously been terrible, Sims fell apart today although it’s a tough ask to have him go 2 on his third day in a row pitching, but there really wasn’t a choice

Is there any salvaging this clown car of despair? I think they have to pray Lorenzen can contribute something anytime remotely soon, and they need to consider calling up Lodolo to be a diet Antone if he can pull it off. Aside from that, it might be slim pickings.

They didn't want to spend the money to add talent or even hold on to their above average RP. I knew it was going to hurt them regularly this year.

The problem is that guys like Antone and Sims are going to be burnt out in a couple months with all the innings they'll be expected to handle.

Should have had more reinforcements (cutting Bradley was especially inexcusable) but you can't go back in time. Just start churning and see what sticks.

Just looking over the rosters of various awful and or tanking teams, trying to gauge if any of them would be willing to work with us to let them pick over their corpses

I wonder what it would take to get Mychal Givens from the Rockies right about now

This is the right thinking. Have to look forward. Otherwise we let the FO off the hook.

Team is still .500, it’s not wait until next year.

First and foremost they need to get some guys who can throw strikes. The walks are just killers.

Hard to win when you walk so many opposing hitters, even with homerun after homerun pounded by your offense.

They have to make a decision quickly as they head out of town, but I'd have Gutierrez and either Hendrix or O'Brien up here tomorrow. Don't even have to make 40 man roster moves.

Just moving deck chairs. They need to look outside the org, which might be impossible at this date and time.

Hendrix and Warren are on the taxi squad for next series. Super easy to swap them out.

Today the Reds became the first team in MLB history to lose despite hitting 6+ home runs and having its starting pitcher allow 2 runs or fewer.
One of the worst things about being a Reds fan is that they always keep finding new ways to make history for something bad.

They've got to get roughly three more guys right in order to stop the bleeding. It can happen. Definitely ought to shuffle what they can shuffle.

What's a shame is the rest of the team is playing some quality baseball.

Mentioned it in a different thread but what is it with reds relievers under DJ and company being awful early in the year? Early last year they were awful, and I believe it was the same case in 2019 before figuring it out in both cases. Lotta walks and home runs.

Last July they had a 7 era, 3+ HRs per 9.

    Agree fully.

I don’t mind a temporary fresh arm or two like Art Warren for a few games.

But Reds have to decide if they are really in this and want to bring in some relievers with a track record of reasonable MLB success.
