Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather be 20-3 (on our way to 21-3) than 3-20. But 9-14 or even 12-11 with rough peripherals is just boring.
Sure, I want to Votto have a huge season, but I can accept if it's over and I still have faith he'll figure it out. Yeah, I want India and Stephenson to be healthy and play well, but they aren't to blame. I'm a bit sad that Mahle, Lodolo, and Greene have gotten beat around a bit, but their peripherals actually aren't all that bad from a predictive standpoint.
Ultimately, it's sort of "fun" to simply expect to lose literally every single day. I mean, look at tonight's lineup. We've got a light-hitting utility IF we claimed off the wire from the Mets in April starting in RF. Our 2-hole hitter has a .296 career OBP. Our DH and clean-up hitter put up a .653 OPS last year -- a figure nearly 100 points better than his performance thus far. You cannot possible have any expectations for this team.
Wins, when (and if) they happen, are a nice surprise. Meanwhile, you get to almost root for the spectacular disaster. It's noteworthy. It's memorable. From a certain perspective, it's "win"/"win". Maybe, just maybe, it will hasten the end of this god-forsaken ownership group. A man can dream.
