He still hasn't been great (2 game hitting streak!) but last 7 games Geno's K rate is 20.7% with a .720 OPS

Happy to see that big double today. Seems like the first big clutch hit he has had this year. Maybe this is the start of a hot streak.

    Geno went 5 for 13 the last 3 games with a 2B, a HR, and 4 RBI

Geno’s OPS went up 55 points in one three game series because it’s still really early in the season.

    Re: Is Suarez broken?

Eugenio Suárez – It was a nice series for Suárez with five hits in 13 at-bats, which included a solo home run Monday and a bases-clearing, three-run double Wednesday. The question is whether it was just a nice series against a last-place team or a sign that he will break out of his slump.

His three-run double in the 10th inning Wednesday was the hardest hit ball of the game (111.5 mph exit velocity) and his hardest hit of the season. His seventh-inning single left his bat at 108.8 mph. He had a couple of soft hits Tuesday, so he wasn’t blistering pitches all week, but Wednesday was a good day at the plate for him.

If he can stop thinking about the personal home run goal and remember that not every run scoring opportunity requires swinging for the downs, he'll probably be fine over time. We know he CAN hit. Just needs to stop trying to pull everything that's off the plate.

Everyone keeps mentioning the 50 HR thing. He said it back at the beginning of Spring Training and then never brought it up again. Yet it gets mentioned here every single day.

    Jeeze, let it go.

    Re: Is Suarez broken?

DENVER – When Eugenio Suárez ripped a three-run double into the left-center gap in the 10th inning Tuesday, his teammates cheered wildly from the dugout.
Some guys pumped their fists. Others banged their hands on the top of the dugout railing.
The Cincinnati Reds know how important it would be to have Suárez look like his old self at the plate.

“He’s been very open for a player that’s had a lot of success in his career,” Reds manager David Bell said. “He’s listening. He’s learning. He’s not afraid to make an adjustment. It’s not always easy to do that. Just the work, it’s going to pay off.”

Suárez has worked a lot with hitting coach Alan Zinter on ways to improve his approach.“He’s always been able to hit,” Bell said. “He’s just going through a time where it really does become an opportunity to get better. It doesn’t make it fun going through, but he will. I think that’s what we’re seeing right now. He’s just been open to new adjustments, but the main thing is he’s working super hard at it.”

    I guess this fits here.

There are a lot of Cincinnati Reds prospects that are having a good start to the 2021 season. Among the position players perhaps none of them are as important to the near term success of the organization as Jose Garcia, though, who could fill a position of need at shortstop.

His start to the 2021 season has to feel great after having struggled so much on the field in the big leagues last season. At a more developmentally appropriate Double-A level, Jose Garcia has played in 10 games for the Chattanooga Lookouts and has failed to record a hit only once. Last night was another multi-hit game as he went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. He has also had an RBI in every game except the one in which he also went hitless. Garcia’s currently hitting .325/.391/.700 on the season with four doubles, a triple, and three home runs with five walks and 11 strikeouts in 46 plate appearances.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention Garcia has 4 errors in 11 games for an .889 fielding %

He has the reputation of a very good glove but it's something to monitor

    Re: Is Suarez broken?

Garcia needs to spend this entire year in the minors. I don’t care what happens at the big league level. If Suarez, Farmer, and Blandino all break their legs the reds need to get a SS some other way. If Garcia is the future his development needs to be completed. I was screaming for him to be called up last year and I was absolutely wrong.
What would you say.....ya do here?

    Why?

Why must he complete a full minor league season in order to complete his development?
