Well, that's what those words mean. He was here. If they don't keep him, he will have been lost/subtracted. I headed out the door today with two shoes on my feet. If I don't return with them, I have lost them. If I do return with them, I haven't added them. ---M2

I got you, texasdave. Hope everything is okay.

    Games of Wednesday, June 9

The macePOD could go to any number of Lookouts after their 16-run outburst, but the best of the best was Yoel Yanqui, Chattanooga: 3-4, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, 3 R, BB.. The Cuban waiver pickup from last year has quietly put together a decent year so far, slashing .284/.362/.500.

    Honorable Mention:

    Jose Barrero, Lookout: 4-5, 2B, 4 RBI, 3 R

    Others of note:

    Alejo Lopez, Bat: 1-3, 2B, R, BB

Beau Taylor, Bat: 2-4, RBI, BB

    Braxton Lee, Lookout: 2-5, 2B, RBI, 3 R

    Mark Kolozsvary, Lookout: 2-5, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R

    Lorenzo Cedrola, Lookout: 2-5, 2B

TJ Hopkins, Lookout: 2-5, 2 RBI

    Leonardo Rivas, Lookout: 3-5, 2 R

    Alexis Diaz, Lookout: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K

Dauri Moreta, Lookout: IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K. 1.15 ERA on the season. I'm in favor of shifting a few Redlegs bullpen dwellers out, a few Bats up, and a few guys like Moreta to Louisville.

    Jacob Hurubise, Dragon: 1-2, 3 BB, 2 R, SB

Quin Cotton, Dragon: 2-4, HR, RBI, R, BB. Been on a HR streak lately. This was his sixth of the season, but average still sits at .217.

    Victor Ruiz, Dragon: 2-4, 2B, R

Reniel Ozuna, Dragon: 1-4, HR, 2 RBI, R. Hit a game-tying solo shot in the 9th before Dayton rallied to win it.

    Matt Gill, Dragon: 2 IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

    Reyney Reyes, Tortuga: 2-3

    Games of Thursday, June 10

The macePOD goes to the next Reds long man and innings eater (maybe?) Reiver Sanmartin, Louisville: 7 IP, 5 H, R, ER, BB, 7 K.

    Honorable Mention:

    Alex McGarry, Dayton: 2-4, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, R

    Others:

    TJ Friedl, Louisville: 3-4, SB

    Phillip Diehl, Louisville: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K

    Lorenzo Cedrola, Chattanooga: 2-4, R

Yoel Yanqui, Chattanooga: 1-3, 2B, BB

    Eddy Demurias, Chattanooga: 2 IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K

Michael Siani, Dayton: 1-4, HR, RBI, R

Miguel Hernandez, Dayton: 2-4, 2B, RBI, SB

    James Free, Dayton: 2-4, SB

    Raniel Ozuna, Dayton: 2-4, SB

    Noah Davis, Dayton: 4 IP, 4 H, R, ER, BB, 4 K

    Jacques Pucheu, Dayton: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K

    Braxton Roxby, Dayton: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K. Still unscored upon as a pro.

Reyney Reyes, Daytona: 2-5, RBI, R, SB

Gus Steiger, Daytona: 2-4, BB, SB

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

    Games of Friday, June 11

In a not-so-shocking result, the macePOD is split two ways. Both Graham Ashcraft, Dayton SP (6 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 10 K) and Chattanooga SP Hunter Greene (6 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 4 BB, 9 K) deserve the award, so both win it. Ashcraft didn't get the win, but did lower his ERA to 2.67 on the season. That places him 9th in his league (min. 4 starts). His k/9 is fifth, fwiw. Not bad for a 6th round draft pick. Greene, meanwhile, leads AA South in wins and is 5th among starters in ERA. He's thrown the most innings in the league (41.0) and has 10 more K's than the second place pitcher. His 13.2 K/9 ranks 5th in AA South, and his 1.000 WHiP ranks 4th amongst SP. Solid stuff, the both of them.

Honorable Mention, on a Jeckyll and Hyde day wherein two pitchers dominated and lots of others didn't:

2B Alejo Lopez, AAA: 2 - 4, HR, 4 RBI, R-- Ho hum, another day, another listing on the minor league honorable mentions. Lopez has been the best hitter in the Red minor league system and among the best hitters in all of minor league baseball for two months now. 10 games after being bumped up a level, he's just a machine. His numbers (.375/ .512/ .594/ 1.106) are terrific and among the best stories in the game. A real bright spot for the Reds.

RP Andy Fisher, A+: 2 IP, 4 K, W-- Fisher came back after a difficult last outing to vulture Ashcraft's win. To be fair, he did pitch really well in relief.

Garrett Wolforth, A-: 1-3, R, BB, HR(4)-- Since being called up, Wolforth's shown some interesting power. 76 ABs and 4 HR is pretty solid production. We'll ignore the rest of his offensive numbers...

Michel Triana, A-: 2 - 4, 2B, 2 RBI-- Triana is turning things around as a hitter. His OBP looks pretty solid, but he's K'ing at a high rate and not showing much power. That should change as we get into the hotter months. His scouting report extolled the virtues of lightpole power. It'd be nice if we saw more of it. Still, after a long layoff, it's nice to see Triana hit.

Gus Steiger, A-: 2-3, RBI, BB-- Steiger's holding his own in low A as a first time professional and NDFA. That speaks volumes about either his readiness as a prospect or the Reds' ability to develop him.

Wendell Marrero, A-: 2-4, 3B, R, RBI-- Marrero continues to show some power. That's probably a bit under the radar so far, considering how badly he struggled to start the season. In his last month (28 days), the 'Tuga OF has put up a very nice line: .275 /. 405/ .464/ .869. That'll play.

Dauri Moreta, AA RP: 2.0 IP, 5 K-- Speaking of under the radar, Moreta's season has been outstanding, but there's been little chatter about it. That's what happens when there are lots of ridiculous relief pitcher lines across the Reds' minor league sites. 5 K in two innings deserves special mention, however.

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

    Games of Saturday, June 12

Jose Barrero, Chattanooga: 3-4. There really weren't any standout performances on a day where only the Lookouts won, so we'll just default today's award to Mr. Jose Barrero and his 3 hits and 2 runs scored. Now hitting .330, one wonders if Jose should start looking for housing in Louisville.

    In other action:

Alejo Lopez, Louisville: 2-5, 2 doubles. RZ Minor League Board fan favorite just keeps hitting.

Dwight Smith Jr, Louisville: 2-3, BB, RBI

TJ Friedl, Louisville: 2-3, 2B. Quietly starting to put together a solid campaign.

Michael Mariot, Louisville: 5 innings, 3 hits, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts, 0 runs. A former reliever in the mid 2010s for the Royals and Phillies, Mariot has been toiling away in the Mexican League as well as indy ball.

    Mark Kolozsvary, Chattanooga: 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI

    Brian Rey, Chattanooga: 2-4, RBI

    Lorenzo Cedrola, Chattanooga: 2-4, RBI

TJ Hopkins, Chattanooga: 2-4, 2B, stolen base

Nick Lodolo, Chattanooga: 3.1 innings, 3 hits, 0 walks, 7 strikeouts, 0 runs. The good news is Lodolo is still dominant, the bad news is he continues to deal with pesky blisters.

    Quincy McAfee, Dayton: 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI

    Miguel Hernandez, Dayton: 2-3, 2B

Pedro Garcia, Dayton: 1.2 innings, 3 hits, 0 walks, 3 strikeouts, 0 runs

Steven Leyton, Daytona: 1-3, 2B, BB, RBI

Daniel Vellojin, Daytona: 1-3, HR, BB, RBI

    Ranser Amador, Daytona: 2-4

Hayden Shenefield, Daytona: 3.1 innings, 2 hits, 0 walks, 4 strikeouts, 0 runs. The man who went from Reddit to the Reds organization had a successful first outing, would be a fun story if he keeps it going.

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

    Games of Sunday, June 13

Mace Minor League Player of the Day - Josh Osich, Louisville - On a night when the Louisville bullpen was practically spotless (6 IP, 0 H, 11 K), Josh shone brightest - 3 IP, 0 H, 6 K). Throw out his first appearance of the year when he did not retire a batter while giving up 4 ER, his ERA would be a solid 2.57.

    Honorable Mention - None

    Notable performances:

RP - Edgar Garcia, Louisville - Pitched 1 scoreless inning in relief (3 Ks, 0 H).

    RP - Shane Carle, Louisville - Pitched 1 scoreless inning in relief (1 K, 0 H).

    RP - Carson Fulmer, Louisville - Pitched 1 scoreless inning in relief (1 K, 0 H).

POS - Alejo Lopez, Louisville - HR (2), 2 BB, 2 RS, RBI. Flexing some muscle with his 2nd home run in 3 games.

POS - Dwight Smith, Jr. - SGL, HR (1), RS, 2 RBI. - Second straight multi-hit game. Went to Macintosh High in Peachtree City. Don't ask me.

RP - Julio Pinto, Chattanooga - Pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief (2 Ks, 0 H). He has been solid all year, as attested to by his 2.89 ERA.

POS - Jose Barrero, Chattanooga - HR (5), RS, 3 RBI. Chattanooga was no-hit until one out in the 9th. Barrero's 3-run shot brought them to within one.

RP - Carson Spiers, Dayton - Pitched 1.1 scoreless innings (1 K, 0 H). First two appearances since being moved up to Dayton were forgettable. Last two appearances have been sublime: 1 hit and 10 K over 7.1 innings.

RP - Francis Peguero, Dayton - Pitched 1 scoreless inning in relief (1 K, 1 H). ERA for the season is a microscopic 0.82. 11/2 K/BB is promising.

POS - Jacob Hurtubise, Dayton - DBL, BB, 2 RS, SB (22). The speedy centerfielder was removed from the game in the 6th, replaced by Bren Spillane.

POS - Francisco Urbaez, Dayton - 2 SGL, RS, RBI. Solid batting line for the first-year minor leaguer out of Florida Atlantic: .295/.375/.423/.798.

POS - Miguel Hernandez, Dayton - 2 SGL, RS, RBI. Learning patience in the minors. P/PA in 2018 was 2.7, in 2019 was 3.3, so far in 2021 it is up to 3.6.

POS - Jonathan Willems, Dayton - HR (1), RS, RBI. Pinch hit in the 9th and cracked his first home run of the season.

RP - Manuel Cachutt, Daytona - Pitched 1.2 scoreless innings in relief (3 K, 0 H). Nice bounceback from a depressing last outing. Last time out was his only appearance in which he was charged with earned runs.

RP - Jake Gozzo, Daytona - Pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in relief (0 K, 0 H). Learning the pitching ropes has been slow going for the converted first baseman with the big arm.

RP - Vincent Timpanelli, Daytona - Pitched 1.2 scoreless innings in relief (2 K, 1 H). Another former position player, Timpanelli earned his 3rd save on the year. Timpanelli is a flamethrower who has struck out 23 in 15.1 IP. 1.17 ERA.

    Breakdown: 0 SP - 10 RP - 6 POS.

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

We're getting a logjam at the top of the macePOD standings, as Hunter Greene and Reiver Sanmartin have joined the group with their third award. An honorable mention is providing a little tiebreaker separation, just enough to move Greene and Alejo Lopez to the top of the pitchers and hitters. Elsewhere Jose Barrero is finally on the board, which seems odd considering his season but that's how it goes sometimes, and Alex McGarry is becoming quite the bridesmaid, with three HMs but no PODs as of yet.

    Hunter Greene 3 1
    Alejo Lopez 3 1
    Nick Lodolo 3 0
    Brian Rey 3 0
    Reiver Sanmartin 3 0
    Carson Spiers 2 2
    Jacob Hurtubise 2 0
    Graham Ashcraft 1 2
    Tyler Callihan 1 2
    Jose Barrero 1 1

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

    Games of Tuesday, June 15

macePOD: Lorenzo Cedrola, Chattanooga: 3-4, HR, 2 RBI, R. The 23 year old Venezuelan is only 5'8, 152 pounds and he's not known for his power, but he whacked his second homer of the year last night. Slashing a respectable .295/.339/.420.

    Honorable Mention:

Alejo Lopez, Louisville: 3-4, 2B, RBI. What else is new? Average up to .409.

Others of note on a night with a pair of wins, another Louisville loss, and a suspended game for Daytona:

TJ Friedl, Louisville: 2-3, 2B, BB, 3 R. .333/.435/.590 in June. I'd like to see Friedl get a shot next time the Reds need a 5th OF instead of Payton.

Errol Robinson, Louisville: 2-4, 2B, RBI

Chris Okey, Louisville: 1-4, HR, RBI, R

Jose Barrero, Chattanooga: 2-5, R, SB

    Wilson Garcia, Chattanooga: 2-4

    Connor Curlis, Chattanooga: 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 6 K

Michael Byrne/Duari Moreta/Nick Howard, Chattanooga: Scoreless innings each.

    Francisco Urbaez, Dayton: 2-4, R

Juan Martinez, Dayton: 2-4, HR, 2 R, RBI

Michael Siani, Dayton: 2-4, RBI, R, 2 SB

    Miguel Hernandez, Dayton: 2-4

    Eduardo Salazar, Dayton: 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, BB, 10 K

    Andy Fisher, Dayton: 2 IP, H, 0 R, BB, 3 K

Braxton Roxby, Dayton: IP, H, BB, 3 K

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

    Games of Wednesday, June 16th

Mace Minor League Player of the Day - Noah Davis, Davton - Nearly perfect on the mound in a Dragon win. 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K.

    Honorable Mention - Ricky Salinas, Chattanooga - Another sterling starting performance. 6 H, 3 H, 0, 0 ER. 1 BB, 5 K.

    Notable Performances:

    RP - RJ Alaniz, Louisville - Pitched 2 scoreless innings in relief (4 K, 0 H) - 6 up, 6 down. Doesn't get any better than that.

    RP - Cionel Perez, Louisville - Pitched 1 scoreless inning in relief (1 K, 1 H). Save #1.

POS - Mark Payton, Louisville - SGL, HR (1), BB, SB (2), 2 RS, 2 RBI. He can hit AAA pitching.

POS - Narciso Crook, Louisville - 2 SGL, HBP, SB (3), 2 RS, RBI. Hands down the best name on the roster.

POS - Logan Morrison, Louisville - 2 SGL, 3 RBI. Has been whacking the ball hard in his short stint in River City (1.115 - OPS).

POS - Dwight Smith, Jr, Louisville - 2 SGL. Leads Louisville in both walks (17) and RBI (17).

POS - Beau Taylor, Louisville - 2 BB, 2 RS. Getting on base at a .369 clip.

POS - TJ Friedl, Louisville - DBL, HR (4), BB, RS, 2 RBI. Leads Louisville in both home runs (4) and XBH (15). Something clicked 27 games ago: .321/.424/.595/1.019.

RP - JC Keys, Chattanooga - Pitched 1 scoreless inning in relief (1 K, 1 H). Combined ERA between Dayton and Chattanooga is 1.88.

RP - Matt Pidich, Chattanooga - Pitched 1 scoreless inning in relief (1K, 0 H). Looks as if Pidich has been shuffled back to the pen after making 4 starts.

RP - Nick Howard, Chattanooga - Pitched 1 scoreless inning in relief (3 K, 2 H). Save #5. Has he finally put the yips behind him? Always had the stuff to succeed.

POS - Jose Barrero, Chattanooga - 2 SGL, SB (3), RS. Jose has been stroking the ball all season (.924 - OPS).

POS - Yoel Yanqui, Chattanooga - 2 SGL. Career .800+ hitter is doing the job in Chattanooga (.809).

POS -Wilson Garcia, Chattanooga - DBL, HR (2), RS, 2 RBI. Seems to be emerging from a massive slump with 4 hits over his last 2 contests.

    RP - Francis Peguero, Dayton - Pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in relief (2K, 0 H). Save #4. ERA is a sparkling 0.73.

POS - Francisco Urbaez, Dayton - SGL, DBL. Quietly keeps putting up strong numbers. First year in professional ball. .314/.385/.442/.827.

POS - Miguel Hernandez, Dayton - 2 SGL, RS, RBI, SF. Second on squad with 20 RBI.

POS - Quin Cotton, Dayton - SGL, BB, RBI. Hit better in Billins in 2019. Kinda just treading water here in '21.

RP - Ian Koch, Daytona - Pitched 2 scoreless innings in relief (4 K, 0 H). Adventurous nigh for Koch last night. Struck out 4, but also walked 4, in his 2 innings of work.

    RP - Luis Mey, Daytona - Pitched 2 scoreless innings in relief (3 K, 0 H). Save #2.

POS - Steven Leyton, Daytona - SGL, BB, RS, 2 RBI. Is he Steven? Is he Brandon? Who knows? Has not hit well at all in 2021.

POS - Leonardo Seminati, Daytona - 2 SGL, RS. Signed from Italy, and then missed all of 2020. This strapping young man is woefully short on experience. Needs to learn in a hurry. Is showing signs over the last 7 games: .333/.440/.524/.964.

The macePOD goes to Graham Ashcraft, Dragon: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K. The 2019 sixth-rounder out of Hunstville lowered his ERA to 2.33 on the season and helped Dayton shutout Fort Wayne, 2-0. He's fanned 55 and walked only 13 in his 38.2 innings this season.

Others of note on a night that Daytona walked 12 times and struck out 17 in a four-hour loss. Must have been fun to watch.

    Dominic Smith Jr., Bat: 2-4, 2B, R

    Beau Taylor, Bat: 2-2, 2 2B, 2 RBI, BB

Mark Payton, Bat: 1-5, HR, 2 RBI, R

    Phillip Diehl, Bat: IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K

Lorenzo Cedrola, Lookout: 2-5, HR, 3 RBI, R

Chuckie Robinson, Lookout: 2-4, RBI, R, SB

    Jacob Hurtubise, Dragon: 2-4

Victor Ruiz, Dragon: 1-2, 3B, RBI, BB

    Spencer Stockton, Dragon: 3 IP, H, 0 R, BB, 2 K

Leonardo Seminati, Tortuga: 2-5, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R, BB

Austin Hendrick, Tortuga: 1-4, HR, 2 RBI, BB, R. First long ball of the season for the Reds 2020 first rounder, who hasn't had an easy first year as a pro.

    Ivan Johnson, Tortuga: 1-3, 2B, 3 RBI, 3 BB, R, SB

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

    Ick.

You guys left me with some crap choices today...

The macePOD goes to relative newcomer (and MLB veteran) Logan Morrison, 1B AAA Louisville. The former MLB star(...?) enjoyed the only multi-hit game on the day. In all three games. (Sigh.) He hit his first AAA HR of the year, had a RBI, a single, a run scored, and an RBI. Added a BB too, for three times on base on the night.

Others of note on a night that no one distinguished themselves

Juan Abril, RP Daytona: Pressed into service when SP Case Williams once again spit the bit, Abril was excellent. 3 IP, 2 H, 9 ER, and 4 K. He was the POD until I noticed Morrison.

Jay Schuyler, AA OF/ 1B: 1 - 2 with a 2B and two BBs on the night. A RS and an RBI complete the night.

    And really, that's it.

    As I noted above: Ick.

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

    Games of Saturday, June 19

Lyon Richardson, Dayton: 7 innings, 2 hits, 3 walks, 10 strikeouts, 1 run. A complete game as it was part of a double header, the young Lyon's roar was mighty on this night after it was barely a meow his last few times out. He really needed this one and the future still looks bright for the 21-year-old.

    In other action:

Alejo Lopez, Louisville: 4-6, 3 RBI. I myself have said I see Lopez as more a possible bench bat than a possible starter for the Reds but does anybody really doubt he could probably come up to Cincinnati right now and outhit Eugenio Suarez?

Mark Payton, Louisville: 2-6, HR, 2 RBI. Payton is quickly cementing himself as a Quad A legend

    Alfredo Rodriguez, Louisville: 3-5, 2B

Beau Taylor, Louisville: 3-4, HR, 4 RBI

Riley O'Brien, Louisville: 5 innings, 5 hits, 3 walks, 8 strikeouts, 2 runs. Not the greatest start ever but good work in Omaha where the ball flies outta there.

    Jose Barrero, Chattanooga: 2-5, RBI

Yoel Yanqui, Chattanooga: 1-4, HR, 4 RBI. One hit but it was a big one, a grand slam.

    Chuckie Robinson, Chattanooga: 3-5

    Wilson Garcia, Chattanooga: 3-4

TJ Hopkins, Chattanooga: 3-3, 2B, BB. Taking a big leap from Billings in 2019 to now AA in 2021 hasn't been an issue for the former 9th rounder out of South Carolina, seems like a guy who has to prove it at every level but might just make it to The Show.

Randy Wynne, Chattanooga: 5.1 innings, 6 hits, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts, 3 runs, 1 earned run

Dauri Moreta, Chattanooga: 2.2 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts, 0 runs. Continues to be lights-out out of the Lookouts bullpen, ERA stands at 0.84

Jacob Hurtubise, Dayton: 4-6, BB, 2 RBI, stolen base. Continues to be a catalyst atop the Dragons lineup.

Quincy McAfee, Dayton: 1-4, HR, 2 RBI

    Juan Martinez, Dayton: 3-7, 2B

Jonathan Willems, Dayton: 2-3, 2 RBI

Michael Siani, Dayton: 2-4, 2 walks, 2 stolen bases

Austin Hendrick, Daytona: 1-3, 2B, RBI

Michael Triana, Daytona: 2-3, BB, 2 RBI

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

This was an odd week, as 5 of the 6 daily winners got their first mPOD of the year. Graham Ashcraft was the only repeater, getting his second win of the season so far. The honorable mention Alejo Lopez got was key however, as it moves him into the top spot on the overall leader board by the slimmest of margins. Side note, next week's rundown won't be posted until Tuesday as I'll be spending my Monday driving home from NJ.
