Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

    Games of Friday, May 28

The Mace Minor League Player of the Day is Little Nicky Delmonico, AAA Louisville DH. Delmonico st(e)aked the Bats to a first inning lead with a two-run single and added a run-scoring double in the 4th inning to lead Louisville to a win over the Mud Hens of Toledo. His 2 - 4 night with 3 RBI is just enough to eke out a POD award, as two Red squads were squashed (squished?) by the rain.

Honorable Mention, on a day that saw the Red minor league ladder go 1 - 1 with few standouts:

Brantley Bell, AAA Louisville RF: 2 - 4, SB, 2 R, RBI, BB. Bell's been serviceable as a utility guy in Louisville this season. He had a good game but didn't quite toll for me.

Phillip Diehl, AAA Louisville LHRP: Dropped his ERA to 1.17 (7.2 IP) with an inning of 2K, one-hit adequacy.

Alejo Lopez, AA Chattanooga 2B: Another day, another mention on the Hot Sheet. Lopez had two safeties and a SB on the night.

Miguel Figueroa, AA Chattanooga RP: 1 IP, 1 H, 2 K. Again, there's not much that happened on the farm. Shrug.

For the record...Tenerowicz, an infielder, was 2-4 on Thursday and did not see time on the mound. My apologies to the readers

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

    Games of Saturday, May 29

Hunter Greene, Chattanooga: 7 innings, 7 hits, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts, 2 runs. Greene had six scoreless until being dinked and dunked to death in the 7th but still completed the frame. Sadly the bullpen coughed up his W but the Lookouts did still come out on top 5-4.

In other action, on a day where Dayton and Daytona both played a pair which didn't result in many pretty lines:

Cheslor Cuthbert, Louisville: 2-3, HR, BB, RBI

Alfredo Rodriguez, Louisville: 2-4, 2B, RBI

Tony Santillan, Louisville: 6 innings, 6 hits, 2 walks, 9 strikeouts, 3 runs. A quality start for Santillan who holds a 2.49 ERA over 5 starts so far.

    Yoel Yanqui, Chattanooga: 2-5, 3B

Jose Barrero, Chattanooga: 1-3, RBI. The Artist Formerly Known As José García.

Lorenzo Cedrola, Chattanooga: 2-3, 2 doubles, RBI

Quin Cotton, Dayton: 1-6, HR, 2 RBI

    Eric Yang, Dayton: 2-3, 2B

    Quincy McAfee, Dayton: 1-4, 2B, 2 BB, 2 RBI

    Francisco Urbaez, Dayton: 2-3

Noah Davis, Dayton: 6 innings, 3 hits, 1 walk, 7 strikeouts, 2 runs, 1 earned run. The talented right hander from UC Santa Barbara fell to 0-3 on the year through little fault of his own in this one.

Rece Hinds, Daytona: 3-6, 2B, BB, RBI

Danny Lantigua, Daytona: 1-3, BB, 2 RBI

Daniel Vellojin, Daytona: 1-2, 2B, RBI

James Proctor, Daytona: 3 innings, 1 hit, 0 walks, 3 strikeouts, 0 runs. ERA is 0.45.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

    Games of Sunday, May 30th

MaceMiLPotD - POS - Jacob Hurtubise - Dayton - SGL, 2 BB, 2 RS, 2 RBI, 2 SB (16), Threw a runner out at home. Stuffed the stat sheet offensively, defensively and on the bases.

Honorable mention - POS - Miguel DeLeon - Chattanooga - 3 SGL, HR (1), RS, 3 RBI. 7th year in minors, but still just 24. .920 OPS. Claimed off waivers from Texas. Their loss.

    Notable Performances:

RP - Hector Perez - Louisville - Pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief (2K). Out of the Blue Jays organization. Only thing holding him back is control of his pitches. Him and half the minors.

RP - Art Warren - Louisville - Pitched 1 scoreless inning of relief (0K). Has pitched 7.1 innings and 8 games in the majors, and has to give up a run.

    SP - Nick Lodolo - Chattanooga - 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 K. Rumored to have left the game with a blister on his pitching hand.

RP - JC Keys - Chattanooga - Pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief (1K). Once again: control, control, control.

RP - Eddy Demurrias - Chattanooga - Pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief (2K). Started at Dayton, and has made one jump in 2021. Has yet to be scored up in 12.1 innings.

RP - Dauri Moreta - Chattanooga - Pitched 1 scoreless inning of relief (2). Came back after Saturday's miracle Houdini act, and excels again. Vultures 2nd win in 2 games.

POS - Alejo Lopez - Chattanooga - SLG, BB, HBP, RS. More walks (12) than strikeous (11). Getting on base at a .435 clip so far.

POS - Brian Rey - Chattanooga - SGL, BB, RS, RBI. Hitting in tough luck since being promoted. .200 BABIP in 'Nooga.

POS- Yoel Yanqui - Chattanooga 2 SGL, DBL, RS, RBI. Hitting over .400 for the past week.

POS - Wilson Garcia -Chattanooga SGL, HBP, SF, RBI. Says hello.

    SP - Graham Ashcraft - Dayton - 5 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K. - Worthy of an honorable mention nod. But life sucks sometimes.

POS - Eric Yang - Dayton - SGL, DBL, RBI. .829 OPS across parts of 2 minor league seasons.

POS - Alex McGarry - Dayton - 2 SGL, BB, 2 RS, SB. After being moved up from Daytona, he registered a .821 OPS in his first week at Dayton.

POS - Francisco Urbaez - Dayton - SGL, 2 DBL, BB, 2 RS, 2RBI. - Worthy of an honorable mention nod. But life sucks sometimes.

RP - Brett Lockwood - Daytona - Pitched 1 scoreless inning of relief (2K). 8 Ks in just 5.1 innings out of the pen, but also 7 walks.

POS - Daniel Vellojin - Daytona - 2 SGL, BB, RBI. Has reached base in all but one game as a Turtle. In that lone game, Vellojin came in as a defensive substitute, and never came to the plate.

POS - Wendell Marrero - Daytona - DBL, 2 BB, RS. Hit .915 in the Arizona Rookie League in 2019. OPSing just .248 in his first 11 games at Daytona. Since, these are his numbers: .556/.667/.944/1.611.

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

Sorry for the late standings update, I got caught out by Memorial Day . Hunter Greene must've read last week's notes about being passed up in the pitcher ranks since he got back into the POD action, but Nick Lodolo held even with him to not only retain top pitcher honors but also move into a tie with Brian Rey for the #1 overall spot. Jacob Hurtubise has joined the mix too after a nice week. Nicky Delmonico gets our first kiss of death, winning the award and being released a couple days later, though I'm pretty sure that was on his own request on a June 1st opt out. Here's the standings:

    Nick Lodolo 3 0
    Brian Rey 3 0
    Hunter Greene 2 1
    Jacob Hurtubise 2 0
    Reiver Sanmartin 2 0
    Tyler Callihan 1 2
    Carson Spiers 1 2
    Narciso Crook 1 0
    Nicky Delmonico 1 0
    Austin Hendrick 1 0
    Alejo Lopez 1 0
    Quincy McAfee 1 0
    Scott Proctor 1 0
    Leonardo Rivas 1 0
    Tony Santillan 1 0
    Gus Steiger 1 0
    Alex McGarry 0 2
    RJ Alaniz 0 1
    Graham Ashcraft 0 1
    Brantley Bell 0 1
    Stevie Branch 0 1
    Michael Byrne 0 1
    Noah Davis 0 1
    Miguel De Leon 0 1
    James Free 0 1

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

    Games of Tuesday, June 1

Not a lot to write home about tonight, so the macePOD is largely based on his body of work over the season. Braxton Roxby, Dayton: IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, Save. The undrafted free agent signed last summer out of Division II Pitt-Johnstown has been unhittable to start his pro career. So far this year: 11.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 6 BB, 18 K.

A few other notables on a night that saw the Dragons score 10 runs on five hits and 12 walks (yikes):

    Alejo Lopez, Chattanooga: 2-4, 2B, R

Brian Rey, Chattanooga: 1-4, 2B, RBI

Miguel Hernandez, Dayton: 2-5, 2 R, RBI, SB

    Francisco Urbaez, Dayton: 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB, R

    Spencer Stockton, Dayton: 5 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 K

    Michel Triana, Daytona: 2-4, 2B, R

    Evan Kravetz, Daytona: 5 IP, 3 H, R, 0 ER, BB, 6 K

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

    Games of Wednesday, June 2

MaceMiLPotD - POS - Michel Triana - Daytona - Triana reached base on all four trips to the plate. He singled 3 times and reached on an error. He also scored a run. Slow start after defecting from Cuba, and not playing in a league in 4 years. Over his last 10 games, these are his numbers: .375/.488/.531/1.019.

    Honorable mention - None

    Notable Performance

RP - Brandon Finnegan - Louisville - Pitched 1.1 scoreless innings of relief (3 Ks).

RP - RJ Alaniz - Louisville - Pitched 1.1 scoreless innings of relief (3 Ks).

RP - Art Warren - Louisville - Pitched 1.0 scoreless innings of relief (1 K).

    POS - Errol Robinson - Louisville - 2 BB, 1 RS.

POS - Alfredo Rodriguez - Louisville - 2 SGL, RS, 2 RBI. Average still over .300. OPS still over .800. He has earned a look in my book.

    POS - Brantley Bell - Louisville - 2 SGL, 2 RS, RBI.

POS - Narciso Crook - Louisville - DBL, BB, RBI.

    SP - Jason Parker - Daytona - 4.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K.

RP - Vince Timpanelli - Daytona - Pitched 1 scoreless innings of relief (2 Ks).

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

    Games of Thursday, June 3

Alejo Lopez adds his second macePOD of the season: 2-3, 2B, 2 BB, R. The Mexico City native and former Reds 27th rounder just hits no matter what uniform he wears. I'm interested to see what he does at the AAA level.

Other notables on a night that weather in Louisville robbed us of a trio of doubleheaders:

Aristides Aquino, Louisville: 1-2, 2B, 2 BB, 2 R. Would be nice to have this bat back off the Reds bench.

TJ Friedl, Louisville: 1-3, HR, RBI, R, BB

    Bo Takahashi, Louisville: 6 IP, H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 7 K

Phillip Diehl/Josh Osich/Art Warren, Louisville: Scoreless inning apiece

    Lorenzo Cedrola, Chattanooga: 2-3, 2B, 2 R

    TJ Hopkins, Chattanooga: 3-6, 3B, 2 RBI, R

Yoel Yanqui, Chattanooga: 1-6, HR, 2 RBI, R

    Robbie Tenerowicz, Chattanooga: 3-6

    Ricky Salinas, Chattanooga: 5 IP, 4 H, R, ER, BB, 6 K

Alexis Diaz/Nick Howard/Miguel Figueroa, Chattanooga: Scoreless inning apiece

    Quincy McAfee, Dayton: 2-5, BB

Francisco Urbaez, Dayton: 2-5, HR, 2 RBI

    Eduardo Salazar, Dayton: 6 IP, H, 0 R, 5 BB, 3 K

    Lyon Richardson, Dayton: 4 IP, 2 H, R, ER, 2 BB, 7 K

Garrett Wolforth, Daytona: 2-4, R, BB

Michel Triana, Daytona: 2-4, 2 RBI

    Daniel Vellojin, Daytona: 2-3, 2 2B, 2 BB, 2 R

Wendell Marrero, Daytona: 1-3, HR, 3 RBI, R, BB

    Stevie Branche, Daytona: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

    Games of Friday, June 4

The Mace Minor League Player of the Day is Chattanooga catcher Chuckie Robinson. The former Rule 5 pick-up went 2 - 3, with a HR, 2 BB, an RBI, and 2 R. Four times on base? Good enough for me. Robinson also caught Greene in an outing that saw the former #2 pick pitch very well until tiring late. Nice game from the AA catcher.

Honorable Mention, on a day that saw the Red minor leaguers win one game and struggle to do much of anything offensively or on the mound:

    Tony Santillan, AAA SP-- 7 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 13 K

Narciso Crook, AAA RF-- 2 - 4, HR, RBI, 1B, BB

    Yoel Yanqui, AA 1B-- 2 - 5, R, 2 RBI, CS

    Jose Barrero, AA SS-- 2 - 3, 2 R, 2 BB

    Brian Rey, AA 2B-- 2 - 5, 2 R

    TJ Hopkins, AA CF-- 1 - 3, 2 BB, R

    Victor Ruiz, A+ DH-- 2 - 4, 2B

    Michael Siani, A+ CF-- 2 - 4, 3B, 2B, R

    Alex McGarry, A+ 1B-- 2 - 4, 2B, R

    Wendell Marrero, A- LF-- 1 - 1, 3 BB, 3 R

    Reyny Reyes, A- 2B-- 3 - 4, 2 Es

    Leonardo Seminati, A- 3B-- 2 - 4, RBI

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

    Games of Saturday, June 5

Quin Cotton, Dayton: 4-6, 2 HRs, 6 RBI. There were several big performers in Dayton's 13 run drubbing of the Captains but the Reds 2019 8th rounder out of Grand Canyon was the top dog. He was not really hitting going into this game as evidenced by his still paltry .659 OPS including it, but hopefully this is the catalyst for a big hot streak.

Honorable mention: Graham Ashcraft, Dayton: 7 innings, 2 hits, 1 walk, 9 strikeouts, 1 run, 0 earned runs. Part of me wanted to give Ashcraft the nod for this great start but 2 HRs/6 RBIs is just really tough to beat so sadly the 2019 6th rounder will have to begrudgingly settle for an honorable mention. Ashcraft has yet to allow a HR in his 6 starts with the Dragons and has a 12.4 K/9, which is pretty good.

    In other action:

Joey Votto, Louisville: 3-4, 2B, 3B, RBI. Never heard of this kid.

Alejo Lopez, Louisville: 3-4, 2B, RBI. Would be interested in what a pro hitter like Joey thought of Alejo. I still can't quite get myself to believe his contact heavy game will translate as is to the big leagues, picturing him instead as a possible bench bat, but I'd love to be wrong about that.

Braden Shipley, Louisville: 4 innings, 4 hits, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts, 1 run. Lowered his ERA to 6.62.

Lorenzo Cedrola, Chattanooga: 1-3, 2B, BB

    Yoel Yanqui, Chattanooga: 2-4, RBI

Robbie Tenerowicz, Chattanooga: 2-3, made 2 errors at 3B.

Dauri Moreta, Chattanooga: 2 innings, 0 hits, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts, 0 runs. Holds an (easy as) 1.23 ERA with 22 strikeouts and just 3 walks in 14.2 innings.

Jacob Hurtubise, Dayton: 3-6, 2B, BB, 2 RBI

Quincy McAfee, Dayton: 3-3, 2 doubles, 2 walks, 3 RBI

    Alex McGarry, Dayton: 2-6, RBI

Jonathan Willems, Dayton: 2-4, BB, RBI

    Allan Cerda, Daytona: 2-5, RBI

Garrett Wolforth, Daytona: 2-5, 2 HRs, 5 RBI. Good enough for an honorable mention most days, but the lads a level higher were slightly better. Sorry Garrett, nice ballgame though.

Ranser Amador, Daytona: 3-4, HR, 2B, 3 RBI. Ranser is a 22-year-old infielder (he played 2B in this one) from the Dominican Republic.

Luis Mey, Daytona: 3 innings, 0 hits, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 run, 0 earned runs. Helped save the Tortugas pen.

Vincent Timpanelli, Daytona: 2 innings, 1 hit, 0 walks, 4 strikeouts, 0 runs
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

    Games of Sunday, June 6th

Mace MiLPotd - Alejo Lopez - Louisville - Lopez is putting up numbers that make him a contender for this award on an almost daily basis. SGL, DBL, 2 BB, RS, RBI. Alejo has to be one of the most pleasant surprises in the Reds farm system this season. He, to the best of my knowledge, has never been a high-ranking prospect in his six years in the system. This season he seems almost unstoppable with the bat. He has posted these numbers between AA and AAA ; .388/.475/.488/.963.

Honorable Mention - Allen Cerda - Daytona - DBL, HR (5), RS, 2 RBI.

    Notable Performances

It was a bullpen day in Louisville, and all six performed well.

    RP - Josh Osich - Louisville - Pitched 3 innings of one-run ball (1 K).

RP - Cionel Perez - Louisville - Pitched 2 innings of scoreless ball (2 Ks).

RP - Jose De Leon - Louisville - Pitched 1 inning of scoreless ball (2 Ks).

RP - Phillip Diehl - Louisville - Pitched 1 inning of scoreless ball (2 Ks).

RP - Shane Carle - Louisville - Pitched 1 inning of scoreless ball (0 Ks).

RP - Carson Fulmer - Louisville - Pitched 1 inning of scoreless ball (1 K).

    POS - Narciso Crook - Louisville - 2 BB, 1 RS.

POS - TJ Friedl - Louisville - HR (3), BB, 2 RS, RBI.

RP - Andy Fisher - Dayton - Pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless ball (2 Ks).

RP - Braxton Roxby - Dayton - Pitched 1 inning of scoreless ball (1 K).

    POS - Jacob Hurtubise - Dayton - 2 BB, SB (17), 2 RS.

POS - Quincy McAfee - Dayton - DBL, 4 RBI.

POS - Alex McGarry - Dayton - SGL, DBL.

POS - Jonathan Willems - Dayton - 2 SGL, DBL, RS.

POS - Steven Leyton - Daytona - SGL, DBL, BB, RS, RBI.

POS - Reyny Reyes - Daytona - SGL, HR (1), RS, RBI.

Alejo Lopez is the main story in this week's standings. His double macePOD week has moved him into what is now a 3-way tie atop the leader board. Not much movement elsewhere in a reasonable quiet week.

Re: The 2021 mace Minor League Player of the Day Thread

    Games of Tuesday, June 8

The macePOD goes to Carson Spiers, Dayton: 6 IP, H, 0 R, BB, 9 K. Came out of the bullpen to stop the bleeding and allow the Dragons to come back from seven down to win, 8-7. The nephew of former Brewer and Astro Bill Spiers has thrown a few gems this year and several duds, but it was the former last night for Dayton.

    Honorable Mention:

Quincy McAfee, Dayton: 2-5, HR, 2B, 5 RBI, R. Smacked a go-ahead three-run double in the sixth to help the Dragons erase that 7-0 deficit.

Others of note below. Daytona was suspended after a few innings, I'll leave those numbers for texasdave to recap tomorrow.

Aristides Aquino, Louisville: 1-3, 2B, RBI, R, 2 BB. Get him up as soon as he's eligible.

Dwight Smith Jr., Louisville: 3-5, 3 RBI

    Michael DeLeon, Louisville: 2-4, 2 2B, 4 RBI

    TJ Friedl, Louisville: 2-2, 3B, R

    Riley O'Brien, Louisville: 6 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 8 K. Both hits left the yard.

Jose Barrero, Chattanooga: 2-4, RBI, R

    Chuckie Robinson, Chattanooga: 2-4, RBI

    Miguel Figueroa, Chattanooga: 3 IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K

    JC Keys, Chattanooga: 1.2 IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K

Jacob Hurtubise, Dayton: 2-3, 3 R, 2 BB, SB. His 18th theft of the season.

    Quin Cotton, Dayton: 1-3, 2B, 2 RBI

Hurtubise has a .448 OBP after getting on base 4 times last night. He probably needs to be promoted to AA to keep him on track as he is already 23.
