Reds Minor League Thread - 05/04/21

LOUISVILLE - 630 EDT - The Bats will be hosting the Columbus Clippers to start off their 2021 season. I haven't seen a lineup for Louisville. The Clippers will be Kirk McCarty, a pretty nondescript righthander. He does strike out a batter an inning. But then again, these days who doesn't. Weather might be iffy.

CHATTANOOGA - 7:15 EDT - The Lookouts are at home against the Rocket City Trash Panda (Huntsville, Alabama. No lineup or starting pitcher info for either squad. What I did not know? A trash panda is a raccoon.

UPDATE: Just ran across the Lookouts OD lineup. Hunter Greene is on the mound.

DAYTON - 6:05 EDT - Dayton will start the campaign off on the road against the Great Lake Loons. Lyon Richardson draws the OD starting assignment.

DAYTONA - 6:30 EDT - Daytona will also be on the road, battling the Palm Beach Ratbirds. Pitcher Christian Roa will be making his first minor league appearance.

Dayton went down in order in the top of the first, all on strikes. Not a good omen.

LOUISVILLE - Shipley has given up extra-base hits to the first two batters that he has faced. Bats trail 1-0. Waldo Freeman just booted a grounder to second.

CHATTANOOGA - Hunter Greene's Double A debut is being delayed by rain. Hunter is starting to get loose. Rain delay may not be a long one.

LOUISVILLE - Braden Shipley got knocked around for 5 runs in the first. Scott Heineman launched one in the bottom half of the inning. 5-1 Bats trail.

DAYTON - Pitcher's duel in progress as the game is scoreless through 3. Richardson has yet to give up a hit. Eric Yang gets the Dragons on the board in the 4th with a solo shot.

DAYTONA - The Tortugas are only into the 4th inning, and are going on their third pitcher. Roa went one inning, giving up the game's lone run. Tanner Cooper came on and struck out 5 in his two innings of work. Carson Rudd is no on in the 4th.

Cooper was a 35th-round pick in 2019. He held hitters to a .180 batting average at Greeneville that season, fanning 42 batters across 36.2 innings. He was strictly a reliever.

I couldn't tell how hard Richardson was throwing, but his breaking ball was excellent.

LOUISVILLE - Mark Payton tripled home Alfredo Rodriguez to cut the deficit to 3 runs.

DAYTON - Richardson is out after three hitless frames. JC Keys came on to hurl a hitless 4th.

Hunter Greene's AA debut will have to wait a day as the Lookouts game has just been called.
