100% on the last part. Look at Eric Gregg’s call of the last strike of the 1997 World Series.

Fans think umps blow more calls, but that’s only because technology allows us to see exactly what calls they get right and get wrong. We didn’t always have that.

Before statcast, and the strikezone box on TV, hitters knew to swing at anything close with two strikes because you could never count on the ump getting it right. Umps regularly missed calls by 6 inches, but it was accepted, as long as the ump was consistent.

Now, hitters expect umps to get every call right, and complain when they miss one by half an inch.

It was the NLCS, although he was apparently calling "a foot outside" a strike the entire game. At least it was consistent.

Livan was getting a double wide outside call, IIRC. It's a shame, because that probably was the Braves' best team during that whole run. I had/have no love for the Braves, but Gregg's ridiculous strike zone helped keep what might have been an all-time great team out of the World Series.
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.

Given the breadth of the strike zone enjoyed by Maddux, Smoltz and Glavine, the Braves were the last who complain about the wide zone Livan got. (But it was pretty bad)

I thought it was pooetic justice for all the calls Braves pitchers got over the years.

I wasn’t sending that for you. I know who BTO was and Guess What (Who) I know what group they were in before BTO.

This is a great jazz-rock-psych album, in between the Doo Wah Ditty and Blinded by the Light periods. Much, much better than anything our current commish has done.
