Agree with the decision to play Farmer at short again with Castillo on the mound. Luis is throwing a fair percentage of GBs this year, he deserves a competent defensive shortstop. (India good at second too.)

I don’t care to boo the backups, guy is earning $640,000, does a professional job in his better areas, defense, hitting lefties, versatility. Obviously in there for defense tonight. More concerned with highly paid starters who don’t produce sufficiently, we see them from time to time.

If we're doing it because he's good for defense I'd be OK with Garcia

But the Reds want Garcia to become a better hitter and a starting caliber player. So they are declining to rush him again. Hard to see what’s wrong with that decision.

We have a starting guy in the middle of the lineup every night hitting .135. I suggest that’s much more of a problem than a temporary gig for backup Farmer at shortstop.

I'm also greatly concerned about Moustakas. His bat has only been better than Suarez's in that he's made more contact.

Hopefully by saying that, I've ensured both have a 4 hit game.

Failure is an inherent part of challenging the hitters.

Besides, this is what he’s replacing: 182/.297/.273/.570.

I give Moose a pass as he still may be shaking off his illness. It’s the cure for Suarez they need to find...

They did last year...didn’t go so well. Let him get his feet under him before challenging him again.

.570 is better than .400. And lifetime Farmer is .653, also better than .400 OPS.

Besides, inherent or not, failure isn’t a desirable outcome. Garcia’s down in the minors getting ready to succeed. Sounds like a plan.

I think it's fine if they want to give Garcia another month or two in the minors. Garcia has a chance to be special, hopefully they don't muck it up. The same goes for Greene (and Lodolo to an extent). Be patient and good things will come.

Garcia only has 24 games under his belt. You can’t compare his “lifetime” to Farmer’s.

And that’s the key point. Giving up after 24 games is not challenging the hitter, it’s defy’s the very definition of challenging the hitter. So, no, the Reds did not challenge Garcia last year. They played him for a month, then gave up on him.

The history of MLB reveals that hitters, unlike pitchers, that are rushed generally do not have setbacks. There is little harm to the development of a hitter by rushing him, the data is quite clear on this.

OK. Tonights contest: What happens first?

    Indians get a hit.
    Reds get a run.
