Super bummed that they are just using the Votto injury as a way to get Farmer's bat in the lineup.

In the last week Farmer is hitting .250 with .400 OBP. Ahead of guys like Stevenson, Tucker, Castellanos, Geno. So not as upset as normal.

He’s the best defensive SS on the active roster, which is hysterical to type out. So I am fine with them trying to give these pitchers a good defensive infield to help them get guys out.

What I’m more bummed about is Shogo getting benched. I guess I would be receptive to Winker learning 1B if that’s how you get Akiyama in the lineup. Winker-Naquin-Castellanos is probably the worst defensive OF getting rolled out tonight in all of baseball.

I am wrong so far about Shogo. I thought making the money he is making that he would play against all RHP.
I agree horrible OF defense with those three. Shogo or none of the other three have even average throwing arms either.

I'm just not sure how they can get any of Winker, Naquin, or Castellanos out of the lineup right now. All three have +900 OPS. Reds are currently second in baseball in outfielder bWAR.

    They are 3rd in fWAR.

I am not trying to start an argument, but who would you rather have in the lineup?
I would rather have Farmer at SS
    than
Shogo in the OF, Suarez at SS and .Castanallos/Moose at 1b/3b -- however you want to do that.

But if there's another alternative, I'd be interested to hear it, just stating why I don't mind Farmer at SS, as it helps defense at 4 positions.

yea, IF <big IF> Naquin plays over Shogo consistently, that shows the lack of faith the Reds have in Shogo.
Personally, I think I would pick Naquin too. He's probably a better player. I could be wrong though.

Eh, if you want to go with a glove-only guy (Farmer can't hit major league pitching nor is he a SS), just call up Garcia, no? Or heck, AlfRod? Or one of the countless freely available glove-first SS's?

Farmer is okay with the given roster, though I would prefer Blandino.

However, just a reminder, Jose Garcia is hitting .304 with a .429 OBP and a 1.168 OPS in the minors so far.

It's six games. Let the guy have some extended success first.

I actually could care less what he’s hitting or what he hits if called up. He should be up for this month at least for his glove alone.

But more importantly, these results seem to put an end to the narrative that Garcia can’t hit at all.

I'm a big fan of Garcia and probably the loudest anti-Farmer guy around, but I want to see Garcia beat the door down. We all know his glove is legit, let's see his bat crush AA and handle AAA and then bring him up.

Suarez has been on such a hot streak, hopefully this doesn't cool him off.
