Reds Minor League Game Threads for Friday, May 28, 2021

LOUISVILLE - 7:00 PM EDT - 6-14 - The Bats rally late to club the Mud Hens last night, matching their longest winning streak of the season - at 1. LOL. That is an incredible statistic. Newcomer Reiver Sanmartin - (0.00) will be making his first-ever AAA start. Scouting Report:
The high-waisted lefty has a loose, athletic delivery and is one of the best strike-throwers in the minor leagues. His primary pitch is a sinker that sits 88-92 and he also throws a slider and a change. He commands his entire arsenal extremely well. He projects as a situational lefty due to the low-arm slot.
So, there you go. He keeps the ball in the park, and he rarely beats himself by issuing free passes. Please welcome back Ashton Godeau and Art Warren.

Hot Pitcher -Tony Santillan has fanned 23 over 19.1 IP working to a 1.86 ERA.
Not Pitcher - Hector Perez has made 6 appearances out off the pen totalling 6.1 IP. ERA - 12.15.

Hot Hitter - Over the past week, TJ Friedl is swinging a 1.260 bat.
Not Hitter - Narciso Crook is hitless over his last 16 ABs.

CHATTANOOGA - 7:15 PM EDT - 13-8 - Chattanooga is sending #44 Hunter Greene - (1.69) out to do its bidding tonight. Greene is the "LeBron of Baseball", according to Sports Illustrated, and that is good enough for me. Gastromic enty of the month? The Lookouts are selling a ballpark frank in a bun, and covered with Stouffer's macaroni and cheese. They are serving this little slice of Americana up in a miniature, plastic Lookouts batting helmet. Yes, please! Eddy Demurrias is up from Dayton, and Ryan Olson is heading to the IL, again.

Hot Pitcher(s) - Nick Lodolo, Reiver Sanmartin and Hunter Greene - This trio has combined for the following; 62.0 IP, 32 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 19 BB and 88 K. That works out to an ERA of 0.87.
Not Pitcher - Wes Robertson - In 5 games, covering just 2.2 IP, Wes has a stratospheric ERA of 40.50. Hitters are batting .467 against him. He has given up 5 runs in 0.1 IP in 2021.

    Hot Hitter - Leonardo Rivas - .349/.481/512/.993.
    Not Hitter - Jay Schuyler - .192/.222/.231/.453.

DAYTON - 7:05 PM EDT - 12-9 - For the second time in three tries, the Dragons have erased a 4-run deficit on their way to victory. Eduardo Salazar (3.00) draws the starting gig. Salazar was used mainly in relief since coming stateside. Was moved into rotation in July, 2019. Over his final 4 starts, he registered 0.48 ERA in 18.2 IP. Lyon Richardson has definitely been skipped over in the rotation. Pedro Garcia is up. He has been doing in Daytona. (12 IP, 7 h, 2 2 BB, 18 K.) Garcia is 26, so there is that. Johnnie Schneider has been sent to Extended Spring Training, as has Karsen Lindell. Left-handed pitcher Andy Fisher and right-handed pitcher Matt Gill have been promoted to Dayton from the Cincinnati Reds Complex League club in Goodyear, Arizona.

Hot Pitcher - Reliever Braxton Roxby has not allowed a run in 10.1 innings, surrendering just three hits and six walks. He has struck out 18 of 44 batters faced.
    Not Pitcher - Honestly, none.

Hot Hitter - Jacob Hurtubise has hit safely in nine straight games, going 13 for 30 (.433) to raise his average from .200 to .327. He leads the High-A Central League in On-Base Percentage (.472). He is fifth in the league in batting average and tied for fifth in runs scored. Hurtubise has 13 stolen bases on the year to rank tied for second in the league and tied for fifth in all of Minor League Baseball (120 teams). He has stolen eight bases in the last five games.
Not Hitter - Michael Siani for the season (80 PA) is still looking for his first extra-base knock. (.179/.313/.179/.492.)

DAYTONA - 6:10 PM EDT - 11-10 - Daytona has been following the win-lose-win pattern for the last 11 games. James Proctor (0.53) will attempt to snap that string tonight. To be frank, Proctor has seemingly come out of nowhere. He pitched collegiate ball at Princeton, but was close to awful. (137.2 IP, 164 H, 87 BB, 133 K, 36 WP, 5.88 ERA, 1.823 WHIP.) But, so far in Daytona, he has done a 180. Knock on wood that it keeps up. He is a big, strong kid at 6'5", 220 lbs. And his grandfather pitched briefly in the bigs for the Tigers. He is also a Driveline trainee. Surprise! They just had an article on Proctor on cincinnati.com. They talk about completely reworking his pitching arsenal. Here is the link - https://www.cincinnati.com/story/spo...ff/7454396002/ Good read. The Tortugas are 9-0 when scoring 5 or more runs.

    Hot Pitcher - James Proctor - 17 IP, 8 H , 2 R, 1 ER, 6 BB, 27 K.
Not Pitcher - Jake Gozzo - More walks than strikeouts for the season (10-9) over 7 IP. ERA - 7.71.

    Hot Hitter(s) - Short term (7 Days) - Wendell Marrero - .571/.647/1.000/1.647. Michel Triana - .357/.500/.571/1.071.
    Not HItter(s) - Long term (All Year) - Reyny Reyes - .100/.100/.100/.200. Leonardo Seminati - .083/.154/.083/.237.

DAYTONA - The weather did not cooperate today, so they will play a doubleheader tomorrow.

First game should start at 4 PM EDT - James Proctor on the slab.
Second game begins 30 minutes after the end of the first game. Case Williams will be the probable.

CHATTANOOGA - Hunter Greene will not be the starter. Ricky Salinas will get his first AA start. They did have some rain there, but things are getting ready to proceed. No Jose Garcia. Greene last pitched on the 22nd, so it SHOULD have been his turn to take the ball. I am listening to the Lookouts pre-game show, but no news about anything.

LOUISVILLE and DAYTON - Both of those games will be in a delay.

    MLB HISTORY -
On May 28, 1957, National League owners vote unanimously to allow the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers to move to San Francisco and Los Angeles, respectively, at the mid-season owner's meeting in Chicago, Illinois.

CHATTANOOGA - Ricky "Cardo" Salinas could no do much better in his first inning as a Lookout. He allows the leadoff hitter to reach on a walk. That runner eventually reaches 3rd on a stolen base and a throwing error. But, Salinas strike out 3 to end the threat.

LOUISVILLE - Louisville and Toledo are up and running. Maybe a touch of the nerves for Sanmartin in the first. The man with impeccable control walked two. Nothing else though, so a scoreless first for Reiver.

CHATTANOOGA - Salinas better have some magic up his sleeve, because the bases are loaded with nobody out in the second.

LOUISVILLE - Louisville has come out on fire. Bell singles, and one out later, Cuthbert singles. A double steal puts runners at second and third. Nicky Delmonico brings them both home with a single of his own. After one, 2-0 Bats.

CHATTANOOGA - Salinas gets 2 Ks, but then walks in a run. After 1.5, Lookouts trail 1-0. 5 Ks for Salinas in the first two innings.

LOUISVILLE - Sanmartin walks the leadoff batter in top of the second, his third walk of the game. He gets a grounder and two strikeouts. No score in the middle of the second. 4 Ks in two innings for Sanmartin.

LOUISVILLE - Louisville tacked on 3 more in the second. Beau Taylor walked, Friedl sacrificed him to second, where Brantley Bell's single brought him around. Mike Freeman that lofted a two-run shot over the wall (1).

Reiver Sanmartin is throwing a ton of pitches tonight. Three Mud Hen singles have gotten them on the board in the 4th. And with two outs in the 4th, a double scores 2 more. It is now 5-3 Bats at the end of 4.

CHATTANOOGA - We have good news and bad news. Good news, Salinas struck out 8 batters in 3.2 innings. Bad news, he also threw a ton of pitches (85), walked 5 batters and left the game trailing 3-zip. That's where it stands as the Lookouts bat in the bottom of the 4th. Eddy Demurrias came on to get the final out in the top half of the inning.
