He is a okay 4th/5th OFer. Anyway you look at him he was a bad signing for a supposed cash strapped Reds team.
There's more to baseball than hitting home runs. Not saying it's all Naquin does, but it's the thing you've repeatedly used to defend playing him over Shogo.

Akiyama plays better OF than anyone not named Senzel, sees a lot of pitches, and I think he could get on base at a respectable clip if given some steady play. Naquin has more power for sure but I wouldn't start him every day like Bell has.

I understand why Bell is doing it - and he’s in a tough spot - but Suarez leading off and playing shortstop is quite a doubleheader.

I still think Redus is going to have a big year.

Milner’s first “full” year in 1982, Redus 1983, to be precise

Suarez has a .170 BABip, and that play didn't help it.

Bell, PLEASE stop trying to be LaRussa Jr. with the pitcher hitting 8th.

Maybe they'll trade him mid inning before he gets to hit.

I think Shogo has more range than Naquin, but Naquin has a much better arm. If there is a defensive value gap, it's not as much as it appears (I am not saying either one is definitely better, it's hard to quantify).

Naquin has a 838 OPS. He's earn the starting job.
Shogo has had 188 ABs, and a cumulative 628 OPS. He's had his chances, he's going to have to perform off the bench to earn more playing time, just like all the other bench guys.

I kind of forgot Castillo was pitching today. Career 4.15 ERA at Wrigley.

IIRC, Redus had a pretty decent career overall. He had a few good years with the Pirates after he left the Reds.
Milner was a good glove guy in CF.. back then, more emphasis was on defense.
Neither was a plus starting player, but they had relatively successful careers.
Much better than Walker and Householder.. I know you are just joking, this was not meant to start an argument.

Does Redus still hold the minor league record for average in a season? He hit something crazy like .430 on season. I think it was at Billings.
