Suns vs Hawks would be a fun Finals.

Bucks just got out hustled. Out rebounded 51-45 on their home court.

That doesn't tell the story. Offensive boards were 12-12. The Bucks took seven more total shots than the Hawks.

The defensive scheme needs some rethinking. Their approach to Trae obviously isn't working. And, as they did for the majority of the Brooklyn series, the Bucks refused to run any kind of offense for much of the second half. For a guy with multiple NBA COY awards, Bud rarely seems to react or counterpunch in-game.

Good hire. Of course, it's always a crapshoot hiring a first-time coach, but he spent a season learning under the inestimable Brett Brown.

For real, he's effectively a branch of the Popovich coaching tree. Broke into the league as a player under Nate McMillan. Played under Popovich before joining his staff for six seasons as an assistant. Was pegged as a player as a leader and a potential future coach.

I think we/I underestimate the learning curve for coaches (see: Montgomery Williams). But, to the chagrin of Celts fans, they're not likely competing for a championship next year anyways. Hope Udoka picks it up fast though. He's one to root for.

Had a 7 point lead with 3 minutes to go. The game would have been over if they could have gotten a rebound when it mattered. There were at least 3 possessions down the stretch where ATL scored on an offensive reb. 34 rebounds by Capela and Collins? Can't happen.

Definitely some timely rebounds by the Hawks, but it's not like the Bucks got worked on the glass. And as far as the individual rebounding numbers, the Bucks missed 55 shots. Somebody's going to clean them up. Capella led the NBA in rebounds. It's what he does.

The Bucks could certainly do a better job on the boards, but I'd rank that below other concerns after Game 1.

Trae got a little trigger happy towards the end and was taking some terrible shots. But Collins' activity kept them in it, he was fantastic throughout the entire game.

This is a great point. First-time coaches need time to learn, similar to how rookies do. "Fit"-- with GM/ franchise/ player personnel/ style-- is another oft-ignored caveat (at least by me). I'm shocked, for example, Frank Vogel and Rob Pelinka have worked well as a team with the Lakers, but shouldn't be. Vogel likes the hard work of defense and grind. So does LeBron. To some extent, so does AD. (He chose Calipari, after all, and his entire system is predicated on defense.)

LeBron likes the hard work of defense? He has not played much defense in years.

He was exceptional last year when they won the championship and was excellent this year until injured.

I think you would only be sad if you were a Kings fan...

Phoenix, Dallas and ATL made out well in that draft

It's also when the Bucks used Giannis at the 5. Trae wasn't all that interested in going after Giannis on the switch, and he started hoisting from deep.

The question is how much Bud will go with Giannis at the 5. It's certainly not going to be their primary look, but some extended looks throughout the game and most of the fourth quarter would make a lot of sense. Then again, that'd require Bud making an adjustment.

We probably should have seen that coming. It's the nostalgia tour that was begging to happen.
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.
