Ok what board am I on? This is the Reds we are talking about. They will have too many quality starters next season. Think about that.
Tim McCarver: Baseball Quotes
I remember one time going out to the mound to talk with Bob Gibson. He told me to get back behind the batter, that the only thing I knew about pitching was that it was hard to hit.

Bauer got rocked again last night. This time by the lowly Rangers.
I watched most of it. His control was poor. Not hitting his spots. Even wild at times.
We all know why, I assume?

As an aside, I just realized it’s been a while since Trevor has posted here as well.

I had that exact same thought. What parallel universe is this?? But then I had the thought “but you can never have too much pitching”. Something always happens. A car door gets slammed on a finger, an ACL blows, a strained shoulder lingers for months, someone sprains an eyelid, or something else. I’ll wait and see if the moment comes where the Reds say gee, we need to trade all this excess pitching wealth for something.

Bauer has pitched 27 more innings than Miley this season. Given the fact that the bullpen is by far the Reds biggest weakness Miley would have to have an ERA under 1 to match that innings gap. All of those 5+ ERA guys in our pen would have far fewer innings pitched which is what makes a guy like Bauer so valuable.
Thisyear (06-13-2021)
bWAR has the difference between them a little more pronounced even. Miley’s got 2.6 WAR there vs. Bauer’s 2.1.
I wouldn’t go so far to say that Miley is having a better season than Bauer, but I feel like even as great as he’s been he’s still being a little underrated by Reds fans. They’re at least comparable when you adjust for park factors and the defense playing behind them - also gotta consider has Geno at SS and both Winker and Castellanos in the same OF behind him.
The guy’s been on a 5-6 WAR season pace so far this year, he’s been pretty damn great.
I'd trade Lorenzen and Garrett to save the same amount of money they'd save by moving Gray or Miley. Some of thise kids will need more minor league time, somebody will be hurt and there are plenty of openings in the bullpen for whoever doesn't make the rotation. we've been whining all year about needing guys who can go multiple innings, these are the guys to do that. n
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Dodgers probably stayed too long with him last night, his 114th pitch registered at 98, but right after that he served up a double and a triple
Miley is the 7th best NL starting pitcher by bWAR 2.8. Woodruff leads them all with an amazing 4.0 bWAR already
If my Toyota or Honda gets me to where I need to be comfortably and at a fraction of the cost of a BMW, then why get the affordable option.
The Reds are not the M series (Dodgers) class economically, and Miley’s price point for the performance we are getting is outstanding. He also brings a lot if positive intangibles to this club. If he continues to pitch this effectively at this pricepoint, I don’t see how you don’t exercise his option.
The hard choice and exception I’d make in not trading or exercising the option on Miley is if there was an opportunity to extend or keep Castellanos or sign Winker long term.
Bauer's last 4 starts have not been good.
If I had to make a guess, I'd say he is either trying to ween off of the gunk, or he's stopped using it entriely.
And it shows. Wild pitches that clearly slip out of his hand... Then big meatballs that were supposed to break and didn't.
If Bauer is still using the sticky stuff, I'd hate to see him without it.
