But man, if your team was in a down cycle, it usually took years to recover. At least now there are windows of opportunity for everyone to put together a 2-3 year run in any market.
In our league with nine teams there is always a couple of stinkers. That's using all the MLB teams. Nature of the beast

    It's bad
The Brewers and Cardinals have also had better teams during that time span.
When the Reds put a good product on the field, the fans come.
Although, any team that neglects its product will take a few years of winning to build that back up.
The Brewers and Cardinals have earned their fans' trust, while the Reds decided to tank for 5 years.
The Reds didn't even want to ante up for a few bullpen arms this year.. 2012 may have picked the Reds, just
about everything is going right.. 2 MVP candidates, 2 high performing rookies (3 if you count Vlad), very solid rotation.. but if they don't make the playoffs,
it's because ownership cheaped out and couldn't bring in a few good relievers over the winter.

So why should fans be excited about this team? The Reds have drawn very well considering the effort they put in.
The Reds should be trying to emulate StL and Milwaukee, not blaming the fans for not showing up.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

The Cardinals aren't even a comp for the Reds, they are what they aspire to be, I wouldn't waste my energy trying to debate they haven't earned the trust.

The Brewers OTOH are not who you paint them to be

    2001-2020

    Code:
    MIL 1521	1647 49,331,512 5 Playoff appearances
    CIN 1472	1666	39,499,964 4 Playoff appearances

    +49 MIL in Wins

    + 9,831548 in attendance

    200,643 customers per extra win.
As for Reds fans not showing my original comment was this

Cincinnati has always had an attendance issue, last team to get a million, only team in MLB whose record attendance is 40 + years old.

The real issue is the stadium does not fill up in Cincinnati unless the fans feel that they are going to see a W

Other cities don’t worry about that

    I stand by it too
