    Arizona League starts June 28th

For those of us who can't get enough Reds baseball, the Arizona League gets started June 28th. I'm sure hoping we get Box Scores and Stats.

    DSL starts July 9th,

Here's the schedule..... They are off every Sunday and Wed.

The team will now be known as the ACL Reds. ACL stands for Arizona Complex League, prior to this year it was known as the Arizona Summer League and the team was abbreviated AZL Reds.

Re: Arizona League starts June 28th

The ACL Reds are leading the ACL White Sox 2-0. The A-Reds managed only 2 hits. Their pitching gave up only 3. I did not see a box score anywhere.

EDIT: I did stumble across a box score. The game is in the top of the 9th. A-WS have gotten a leadoff single.

    So far:

Gabriel Aguilar, a 20-year-old out of Venezuela, yielded 2 hits and no walks, while striking out 8.
Alberto Gonzalez was up next, and retired all 6 batters he faced, 2 on strikes.
Wes Robertson, who was roughed up in Chattanooga earlier in the season, allowed a lone single, while fanning 2.

Wilfred Astudillo laced one of the team's two hits, a single.
Yassel Pino reached base all 3 trips to the plate, a single and two walks. He also stole a base.
Drew Mount will need to ice down after the game. He was hit 3 times by pitches, all thrown by the same pitcher! He was replaced by a pinch runner after the third thud.
    Fidel Castro walked twice.

UPDATE: A walk and a throwing error has placed runners on second and third with one out. A sac fly has brought the A-WS withing one. And now we have strike three, and the game is over.

Jesse Stallings, who has been in the organization since 2016 and is 26, got the save.

ACL- Reds Recap - The A-Reds fall 6-4. They were ahead 3-1 through 6, but the bullpen spit the bit.

Bryce Bonnin was the third round draft choice by the Reds out of Texas Tech. He made his first minor league appearance, and he did not disappoint: 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K. Prospectslive are not really that high on Bonnin. https://www.prospectslive.com/lists/...spect-rankings

Jose Peralta was first out of the pen, and he did the job. 2 IP, 0 R, 4 K.

Daniel Duarte (24 in rookie ball) and Johnnie Schneider failed.

Drew Mount doubled and walked twice. He has come to the plate 6 times over the first two games, and has reached base all 6 times (DBL, 2 BB, 3 HBP).
Deivid Alcantara singled and homered (1).
Deivid Alcantara, an outfielder from the Dominican Republic. Born in Puerto Rico, but has been in the Dominican Republic for several years. “Super athletic, has very good speed. There’s a chance for him to be very physical in the future. He can really swing the bat well. Has a very good arm – very exciting, toolsy prospect. He’s performed in games, too,” said Hendricks of Deivid Alcantara. He got the third highest bonus (thus far) from this signing class.
    From redsminorleagues.com
Andruw Salcedo, an 18-year-old catcher from Sincelejo, Columbia, singled twice. He received a decent signing bonus of 300,000. d
Ashton Creal, 21st-round outfielder in 2019, doubled and homered (2).

ACL-Reds led at one point 7-0. But the ACL-Angels have come roaring back to score twice in the 7th, and 3 times in the 8th to make it a ballgame.

Michael Lorenzen worked a hitless inning and struck out 2.
Christian Roa was up next. He shut the opposition down for 3 innings and stuck out 2.
Jayvien Sandridge and Alexander Johnson each chipped in with a shutout stanza.

Elly De La Cruz went 5 for 5 with 2 singles, 2 doubles and a home run (1).
Andruw Salcedo singled and homered (1).
    Sebastian Almonte singled twice.
Drew Mount doubled, was hit by a pitch and stole a base (2).

ACL-Reds hitters struck out 14 times in a 9-5, which raised their record to 2-1.

Don't know if you recall but Alexander Johnson was the kid signed in 36th round of 2019 draft out of Buffalo City Schools, first draftee from BCS since 1972. Young black kid, fireballer, heard that Hunter Greene had become his mentor. Reds gave him $125K so they must have liked something.

He had kind of disappeared in all the COVID stuff until today.

Who knows, maybe this is the start of something big. He pitched one inning and struck out all 3.

    Kinda.

Brewers were supposed to field two teams in the league, and then after the schedule was built, they pulled out. So every game against both Brewers teams will be cancelled.

That's two big-time productive games from De La Cruz in four games total. He hit pretty well in the Dominican in 2019 (107 wRC+) as a 17-year-old. Someone to keep an eye on, at any rate. Other than the numbers, I have nothing on him at all, though. He's the exact type of cypher I enjoy following, though.

    It may not be permanent....................

"For those asking, the Brewers have indeed had to scratch Arizona Rookie League games after shutting down their Maryvale complex due to a COVID-19 outbreak."
