There really aren’t a lot of good options just sitting there. There are 62 relievers who have put up a 6+ ERA this season. That’s two per team.

Every team is struggling to find enough decent relievers. It’s not surprising when nearly every team had 14 man staffs and rotates pitchers on a weekly basis.

But the Reds’ bullpen situation is not typical. They’re the one with a 5.71 bullpen ERA, the worst in MLB by .38. Their problem isn’t a general shortage of relievers among all teams but a specific, glaring weakness.

So, if they really want to win this year, it’s the Reds who should be out there searching for available good relievers, offering to pay the salary of one or two, willing to trade something of value for them.

Your post sounded like an excuse for the Reds. Everybody’s having trouble finding relievers. Reds have no excuses. They chose their path with eyes open.
