Still the Best Team in the Central

Unfortunately they also play games vs the east and west.

So does the rest of the division.

Everyone keeps talking about how weak the NL Central is. Not that they are wrong. But just going on overall records the Nl East is even weaker.

The winner of the Central will be the team to have the last winning streak. Each of the four are mediocre .500 or slightly better than.500 teams. I say less than 90 wins wins the division.

That's just not true. Are the Cardinals the same team going forward when Jack Flaherty went down as their record with them said they were?

The Cardinals slump is due to lack of offense, not Flaherty's injury.

The cardinals are better with Flaherty than without. Point is record after 70 games isn’t exactly the perfect or only indicator of a teams true talent level as was suggested by another poster.

For those of us old enough to remember, or those who know their division history:

1973 Mets. 82-79, I believe. And who did the beat to go to the WS? Your 99 win Big Red Machine.

I certainly don’t mortgage the future (Greene/Lodolo) to win this year or for rentals, but why not the Reds? Hey, it beats watching one of the other 3.

Hmm... Call up Alejo Lopez to play 3B. Trade for Trevor Story, Rich Rodriguez, and Paul Fry. Call up Greene to pitch out of the bullpen...

    Lineup:

    2B India
    LF Winker
    RF Castellanos
    SS Story
    1B Votto
    CF Naquin/Aquino
    C Stephenson/Barnhart
    3B Lopez and eventually Moustakas

    Rotation:

    Mahle
    Miley
    Gray
    Guitierrez
    Castillo

    Bullpen:

    Antone
    Rodriguez
    Sims
    Fry
    Greene
    Brach
    Warren
    Doolittle/Santillan/long mopup guy

We lose Lodolo and one of the Single-A offensive prospects in the trades... But we win the division.

I'm putting it right at 90 games to win the division, which means the Reds need to play .600 ball the rest of the way. I'm as optimistic as anyone, but man that's a tough sell.

The good news is that they are 19-12 (.612) against the NL Central, and have a whole bunch remaining against the other teams in the division.
