Shogo could at least make contact and maybe take a walk and play better defense.
Heineman does not hit left handers any better than he does not hit right handers.

Bell appears to have zero confidence in Shogo. Seems to get PA only as a last resort. There never seemed to be a plan to get him acclimated after injury delayed his start.

I thought he looked good to close out last season. It's a bummer, because he'll be back next year for $8 million. Hope he gets a chance to prove himself, but with the lack of play as the obvious CF replacement for Senzel, it doesn't seem in the cards.

The Reds will start RHP Tyler Mahle (7-2, 3.56 ERA) in the finale. With Castillo struggling in the first two months and Sonny Gray injured, Mahle emerged as the Reds most effective starting pitcher.

With seven wins, Mahle has already matched his single-season career high when he went 7-9 in 2018. Mahle also ranks fifth in the National League in strikeouts per nine innings (11.26).

Mahle is 0-0 with a 4.91 ERA in two career starts against Atlanta.

LHP Kyle Muller (0-1, 5.40) is making his second start of the season for Atlanta. The Braves decided to go with a spot starter to give two extra days of rest to Charlie Morton, who will start Tuesday against the New York Mets.

In Monday's 4-2 win over the Mets, Muller earned a no decision after allowing one run on one hit in four innings. He struck out three and walked two.

Bell is very focused on L/R matchups. He is never going to start Shogo against a lefty. He isn’t even starting Naquin against the lefty.

Next year, with some changes in the OF, and perhaps a DH rule, it’s possible Shogo will get more reps.

Shogo is a good defensive OFer (especially in LF) which is one unfortunate aspect of his being on the bench. Reds’ pitchers need more help from the OF defensively.

Hopefully Mahle can be pitch efficient today. Going to be a hot one.

Clearly the game Heineman goes off.

Bell says he decided it was best for Jesse Winker to not be in the starting lineup today so he had more time to recover.

“Hopefully he’ll be available in game, pinch-hit, something like that."

Antone said an MRI showed no damage to his elbow ligament. He’s shut down from throwing right now.

Antone says the goal in his mind is returning the day after the All-Star break. It’s a different injury than his last trip on the IL.

David Bell said everything went as expected in Sonny Gray's rehab start yesterday. They'll talk with him today before determining the next step.

I am not even going to say Bell. I will say whoever is making out this lineup lose the L R LR obsession. Especially when the guy can't hit against any handed pitcher.
    Let's win this series.

When does Farmer get a day off?

I know many oppose but India at SS for a even a game or two opens up possibilities. Do positions really make that much difference in today’s game with all the shifting of IFs?

Hard to believe but this Friday's game will be game 81.

Once Schrock is up I think we’ll see Geno get starts at SS with Farmer sitting. At least I hope.

Let's root for pitch-efficient Mahle today and not the Mahle who needs 95 pitches to get through four innings.
"In our sundown perambulations of late, through the outer parts of Brooklyn, we have observed several parties of youngsters playing 'base', a certain game of ball. Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our close rooms, the game of ball is glorious"
