Reds Minor League Game Thread for Thursday, July 1, 2021

Louisville - 8:05 PM EDT - 19-30 - Riley O'Brien (5.40) will start for the Bats tonight. His June ERA is 8.02. Riley has been tenderized in two of his last three starts. O'Brien went to the College of Idaho, whose most famous alumnus was Elgin Baylor. On the hardcourt, he certainly was a spud stud. It is close to being a sports factory. Nearly 40% of its student body are athletes. Who knew? Their team mascot is the Coyote, but don't be a rube, they call themselves the 'Yotes'.

Who's hot for the month of June?

    RJ Alaniz - 11.2 IP, 13 H, 0 BB, 17 K. 1.54 ERA.

Who's not for the month of June?

    Bo Takahashi - 19 IP, 27 H, 5 BB, 24 K. 10.42 ERA.

Dayton - 7:05 PM EDT - 28-21 - CARSON SPIERS (4.71) gets to go for the Dragons on Thursday night. His first four appearances were excellent. However, his last outing he was manhandled for 6 ER. RHP Daniel Duarte made one appearance in the Zona Complex League, and now has been shuttled up to High-A Dayton. Duarte is 24, out of Huatabampo, Mexico. Huatabampo is located on the coast of the gulf of california, south of hermosillo. It is known as 'The Land of Generals' because so many generals during the Mexican Revolution was from this area. It is a major center for both agriculture and shrimping. If you are a fan of chickpeas, you might consider relocating to Huatabampo. The Dragons are 8-1 in series openers, and have won their last 7.

Daytona - 7:05 PM EDT - 21-28 - Jason Parker (4.71) gets the nod tonight. Parker has been up and down all season, and is working to find some consistency. His last start (5 IP, 1 ER) was very encouraging. Over the final 7 games during June, Daytona tallied a Low-A Southeast-best 1.63 ERA (10 ER in 55.1 IP) with just 22 walks and 55 strikeouts, in addition to a 4-3 overall record. Daytona's ERA (1.63) over the final week of June was nearly a full run better than anyone else in the circuit. Among full- season Minor League squads, Daytona has the best ERA of any team dating back to June 24. Those are all positive signs for the Tortugas. After earning the save on Tuesday night, the 22-year-old now leads Low-A Southeast in saves (5). He is also tied for third in appearances (15). Among pitchers in the circuit who have thrown a minimum of 10.0 innings, Timpanelli leads all arms in batting average against (.069) and batting average on balls in play (.129). He is striking out 37% of the batters that he faces. Two injured 'Tugas. Wendell Marrero (concussion), and James Procto (strained oblique).

Who's hot in the month of June?

    Garrett Wolforth - .940 OPS.
    Leonardo Seminati - .930 OPS.

    Miguel Medrano - 8.1 IP, 7 H, 5 BB, 8 K. 0.00 ERA.
    Vince Timpanelli - 10.1 IP, 3 H, 6 BB, 13 K. 1.74 ERA.

Who's not in the month of June?

    Rafael Franco - .352 OPS.
    Debby Santana - .475 OPS.

    Jose Franco - 15.1 IP, 17 H, 12 BB, 11 K. 8.22 ERA.
    Manual Cachutt - 11.0 IP, 17 H, 7 BB, 9 K. 8.18 ERA.

Chattanooga - The Lookouts finally let their secret out of the bag - Randy Wynne will start. They should have kept it a mystery for awhile longer. Wynne allows 3 runs in the bottom of the second. They trail 3-0.

Louisville - The good guys struck for 2 runs in the 6th, and now lead 3-1.

Michael De Leon singled, and Jose Barrero knocked one out of the park for his first home run at the AAA level. That was easy.

3-1 Bats as Nashville hits in the bottom of the 8th.

Chattanooga Recap - Chattanooga plated a run in the 8th, but it was woefully short and woefully late.

Randy Wynne did not pitch well.
Mac Sceroler went 2 scoreless innings. He struck out 3.
Julio Pinto acted like he had bean there before. He went 1 scoreless inning.

    Errol Robinson singled and walked.

Chattanooga could only muster 3 hits and one walk on the night.

Dayton Recap - The Dragons played some free baseball tonight, outscoring Lansing 2-1 in the 10th. They prevail 4-3.

Braxton Roxby went 1.1 scoreless innings. He struck out 2.
Pedro Garcia went 2 scoreless innings. He struck out 3.
