Sincere question - what is wrong with Bell’s brain sitting Lopez the day after a 4 hit night?

Is there any clearer indication you can send to your players that performance doesn’t matter than sitting a guy who does that for a dude hitting in the .100s? What does a guy have to do to earn a start at that point?

Absolutely incredible he is sitting Lopez after a 4 hit night. A child would have given him the start tonight. Can’t imagine how demoralizing that is for a young player.

Bell: “good job rook on the 4 hits last night. Some players go their entire career without getting 4 hits in a 9 inning game. Wow. Impressive.”

Lopez: “thanks coach! I’ll continue to give you everything I got!”

Bell: “Great. Take a seat for this veteran that is literally the worst hitter in Major League Baseball”

    Lopez: “uhhh ohhhh k?”
What would you say.....ya do here?

That's a pretty solid 1-8 for the Cubs...

Votto has been looking good at the plate a good bit…..I want him knocking in some runs if given the chance tonight and he’s earned it, but I like Naquin up with RISP. I don’t care who knocks them in but it’s part of getting the W

I suggest Suarez go oppo if that’s where the hot table pitch is….our best hitters all do it

You could argue that hitting them in reverse order would be just as good

I suspect or at least hope Suarez got the message by sitting for 2 days and watching what the youngster Lopez did. I say he goes 2-4 tonight with a BB.

Lopez also committed a key error and was picked off of first base last night. Maybe performance does matter to Bell?

I mentioned this on another post although I am a big fan of Lopez. He actually had a -WPA last night. He also should have gone to third on the overthrow but didn't.

Can Gray go 100 pitches? I didn't see how many he threw in his rehab.

He had 3 base running issues and a poorly timed terrible error

That stuff has to be noted
