Reds Minor League Game Threads for Saturday, July 3, 2021

Louisville - 8:05 PM EDT 20-31 - Bo Takahashi (6.86) will tread lightly on the mound tonight for Louisville. After a terrible three-game stretch, Bo bounced back with a solid effort in his previous outing, allowing just one run over four innings. Another one just like that one, Bo. Bo don't know the road. At home, his ERA is .354; on the road it is 10.18. When he is ahead in the count it is 3.71; when behind it is 10.80. Throw strikes. Chris Okey has drastically altered his approach at the plate. Up until this season, Okey was seeing 3.52 pitches per plate appearance. In 2021, that has jumped to 4.31. It's not really helping though. He hasn't hit much in his career, but he also has a low career babip at .263. His babip high in five years is just .290. It will be interesting to watch the Tony Santillan Bullpen Experiment. He last pitched on 6/29 (3 innings), so tonight might just be the night. Santillan is from Fort Worth, but Fort Worth just might not be as 'cowboy and cattle drives' as you think.
Fort Worth is home to the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and several world-class museums designed by internationally known contemporary architects. The Kimbell Art Museum, considered to have one of the best art collections in Texas, is housed in what is widely regarded as one of the outstanding architectural achievements of the modern era. The museum was designed by American architect Louis Kahn, with an addition designed by world-renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano opening November 2013. Also of note is the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, designed by Tadao Ando. The Amon Carter Museum of American Art, designed by Philip Johnson, houses one of the world's most extensive collections of American art. The Sid Richardson Museum, redesigned by David M. Schwarz, has one of the most focused collections of Western art in the U.S., emphasizing Frederic Remington and Charles Russell. The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, designed by famed architect Ricardo Legorreta of Mexico, engages the diverse Fort Worth community through creative, vibrant programs and exhibits.

Chattanooga - 7:30 PM EDT - 29-22 - We are going to spin the wheel, and come up with Ricky Salinas (4.30) Ricky is nothing, if not consistent in the ERA department. 2018 - 4.53, 2019 - 4.13. 2021 Dayton - 4.32. 2021 Chattanooga - 4.30. Lifetime - 4.30. I suspect that's what teams are going to get out of Salinas. He has bumped up his three true outcome numbers this season across the board: K/9 9.53 to 11.71. BB/9 3.27 to 4.06. And, HR/9 1.25 to 1.63. Same results. Brian Rey goes on the IL just when he was getting hot. Over his last 8 games, Rey slashed: .344/.333/.563/.896. Rey does NOT like taking a walk. He has walked in just 4.8% of his career plate appearances. That has dropped to 3.5% since moving on up to Chattanooga. Lorenzo Cedrola is third in the league in base hits (56). Mark Kolozsvary is tied for fourth in doubles (11). TJ Hopkins leads the league in triples (5). Lorenzo Cedrola is second in batting average (.318). LC is 10th in OBP (.353). And Cedrola is 8th in OPS (.808). Cedrola is another player with an aversion to taking a walk. He has walked in just 4.3% of his career minor league plate appearances.

Dayton 7:05 PM EDT - 29-22 - Eduardo Salazar (3.70) will start the game for the Dragons. Salazar has been making good progress through the system. In 2018, he was in the Dominican Summer League. By the end of 2019, he was in Low-A Dayton. Eduardo has been very consistent in 2021, going at least 5 innings in 8 of his 10 starts, and missing by just one out in another one. In a bit of a statistical oddity. The Dragons are 13-8 (.619) over their last 21 games. Oddly, they have been outscored 107-94 during those 21 games. Pythag has team going 9-12 over that span. The distance from Dayton to Lansing is 262 miles. All dragons older than wyrmlings fly at 80ft. That works out to about 9 mph. If they dash, they can get to about 18 mph.Since it is such a long distance, there is probably little to no dashing. So, it will take the team approximately 29 hours to get back home at the conclusion of tomorrow's game.

Daytona - 7:05 PM EDT - 24-28 - The Tortugas won their fourth successive game last night, largely on the strength of a 3-run Austin Hendrick dinger. That 4-game win streak is the currently the longest in the league. Today, Frainger Aranguren (3.62) is expected to make his first start of his professional career, as the ‘Tugas will go for their fifth-straight win on Saturday. In 12 relief appearances, Aranguren has allowed earned runs in just 4 of them. In four years in the Reds system, Aranguren has a collective 3.14 ERA. Vincent Timpanelli earned his 6th save of the year, which leads the league. Reds farm clubs have been surging lately, and now are level with the .500 mark (if we count the ACL-Reds). Their combined record stands at 104-104. Good job! Stevie Branche is striking out 44.2% of opposing hitters unlucky enough to have to face him. Tropical Storm Elsa is expected to make landfall in Florida early next week. There could be a lot of postponement in the league.

Daytona - The 'Tugas are off to a good start, leading 2-0 after 2.

Frainger Aranguren is setting them down so far.

Doubles by Garrett Wolforth and Austin Hendrick got Daytona a run in the first.
With two away, Danny Lantigua walked, and went to second on a wild pitch. He scored on single by Gus Steiger. Steiger was retired on the play for the third out, but it took almost the entire Lakefield team to get it done. Steiger was thrown out 7 to 6 to 3 to 4 to 9.

Chattanooga - The Lookouts score a run in the top of the first, and lead 1-0. Errol Robinson walked and stole second. Lorenzo Cedrolla then ripped a triple down the right field line. Robinson scored, but Cedrolla was gunned down at the plate.

Michael Feliz is starting a rehab assignment at Louisville.

Daytona - Frainger Aranguren serves up a 3-spot in the third (good thing it wasn't the 7th), and the Flying Tigers take the lead 3-2.

The Lakeland pitcher's name is Jack O'Lantern. Not really. It's Jack O'Loughlin. I like O'Lantern much better.

Chattanooga - TJ Hopkins homers (1) to make it 2-0 Lookouts. Hopkins' first year in the organization was in Billings in 2019. Now, he is in Chattanooga, meaning he skipped over both Low-A and High-A baseball.

Stuart Fairchild is OPSing .997 in AAA Reno. He missed about a month of the season in 2021. He was traded along with Josh VanMeter for Archie Bradley and cash considerations.

Louisville - Bo knows zeros tonight. It's a good thing too, as the Bats have been silent on offense. No score in the fourth.

Chattanooga - Birmingham scores twice in the third to tie the game at 2 apiece. Big mistake. That just pissed Chattanooga off, as they counter with four of their own in the fourth.

Cedrola singled, and one out later, Kolozsvary walks. TJ Hopkins singles in a run. Chuckie Robinson cleans the bases with a 3-run jack (4).

    Lookouts 6, Barons 2.

Dayton - After 5.5 innings, there is no score.

Eduardo Salazar went 4.2 scoreless innings. 3 hits, 4 walks and 5 Ks.
Daniel Duarte is making his first appearance of the year, and is holding the line.

    Dragons have one hit. One.

Daytona - Lakeland is intent on snapping the Tortugas win streak tonight. They lead 6-2.

Every pitcher that has worked tonight for Daytona, should have called in sick.
Nick Howard is back for his first outing since May 26th. He has been in the organization for 6 years, and has missed three complete season. A for persistence though.
