    College pitcher. Me happy.

Bummed to see Josh Baez go to the Cardinals.

Realy like the arm on Abbot and what the analysts are saying (that only Leiter and Rocker had more K's).

Only thing that gives me pause is the 6'0 height. Seems like the closer you get to that 6 foot floor the more likely you are to be a reliever more than a starter.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

I have no problem with that. Just be a good pitcher.

Abbott had spent most of his outstanding career at the University of Virginia coming out of the bullpen and dominated as a reliever for USA Baseball’s Collegiate National Team in 2019. There had been always been talk about giving him the chance to start, especially since he did so effectively in the Cape Cod League in 2018. Undrafted in the shortened 2020 Draft, he finally got the opportunity to start and has consistently led the 'Hoos rotation in 2021, earning a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist spot as a result.

While he’s not the biggest guy in the world at 6-foot even, Abbott has a combination of stuff and makeup that scouts love. As a starter, he still relies heavily on his fastball-curve combination. His fastball is typically in the low 90s, touching 95 mph, and it plays up and misses bats in the zone because of some cutting action and some funk in his delivery. He can manipulate his power breaking ball -- a true out pitch -- well, slurving it a bit more to run away from left-handed hitters. Abbott hadn’t used his changeup much as a reliever and he’s used it this year, though it needs work.

While Abbott’s walk rate hasn’t been great, he does repeat his delivery well and most feel he’ll be a solid strike-thrower at the next level. He’s shown his stuff holds up deep into games, which could give him a chance to start. Teams love the way he competes on the mound and they know if they do move him back to the 'pen, he could get to the big leagues in a hurry.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

I think Baez might have been the better pick, but no issue with Abbott. I like the pick. And I think it probably means they're going to try to go bigger for a later pick.

The circle change he throws is actually a screwball-- he pronates his arm so that it'll dive away from the RH hitter and bore into the lefties. I really like that look from a southpaw.

James Wood goes off the board to San Diego at #62, in case anyone was still tracking him

I like the Abbott pick a lot. Weird that the #3 SO pitcher in all of college lasted that long, but I guess it’s all on his height and his track record prior to this year. I’ll take it.

Make a splash in the third. Be bold- try to pry Chandler or Taylor away from college.

Here's a nugget on Abbott that is fun:

Andrew Abbott might end up the best value of the entire draft. Have heard Ryan Yarbrough role type profile from scouts. Three pitches. Deception. Nasty slider with impressive tunnel. Abbott will move very fast. #Reds
Well, that's what those words mean. He was here. If they don't keep him, he will have been lost/subtracted. I headed out the door today with two shoes on my feet. If I don't return with them, I have lost them. If I do return with them, I haven't added them. ---M2

I wonder how much these kids think they will be able to make it college off their likeness. I wonder if that's factoring into their decisions much.

I’d also be very happy with Tommy Mace, or HS SS Tyler Whitaker or Peyton Stovall in the 3rd
