Yep, it's really even more stark than that as well on a population % basis since more than 50% of the population is vaccinated, especially the ones that are more likely to be hospitalized

51% are fully vaccinated so there's not much difference there

51% isnt really a good number. 75% of 65+ are vaccinated and they make up most of the hospitalizations. Counting the under 25 year old population in the total vax percentage really undersells how effective the vaccine has been at reducing severe cases.

It's kind of hard to believe that the 7 day average daily case rate for the United States was 12,000 on June 23rd. Feels like a lot more than 2.5 months ago!

San Francisco Unified Reports Zero COVID-19 Outbreaks, Case Transmissions

The San Francisco Health Department released new data Thursday, showing not only has the city's school district avoided a COVID-19 surge, but it hasn’t had a single case of transmission at any of its schools.

“We wanted to have enough data to go to the public and say what we’re seeing within these initial three to four weeks is assuring,” said Dr. Naveena Bobba, deputy director at the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

No hospitalization peak yet, and that's the metric that really matters.
Looks like I may be off by a day or two.

I was there on vacation last month. One thing that stood out is people were really good about masking everywhere I went.

My buddy just returned to his Oakland home from a month in Cincinnati and said it was like night and day.

^ Don't tell him that this is the real reason we wear masks.

Schools are very good about tracing outbreaks and quarantining students who have been exposed. Schools are not the places where Covid is spread. I know Mason city schools are extremely diligent about this.

My BiL is a teacher there and got it (didn't wear a mask in his classroom) then gave it to his wife... who is a teacher. She's not pleased

It depends on which school district.

Some say they are diligent but aren't really. There's so much magical thinking going on with this pandemic.

I respectfully disagree. A school is a perfect breeding ground especially the schools that don't wear masks. I am sure that some schools are doing a great job. My sons school had zero cases last year wearing masks and this year no masks and it is so bad they are considering to going back to remote learning. Luckily someone woke up and again are forcing masks. The funny thing is it bothers the parents more than the kids. Kids want to be able to socialize.
