To go with the pre-mortem so many have already discussed

The Reds have a middling baseball operation and crap PR. Just go radio silence. Skip the "if the opportunity presents itself/we explored lots of opportunities" pablum. It's insulting to fans.

If they were serious, they would have made a move months ago. The bullpen was a five-alarm fire in April.

Not that I want to defend the ownership group that I clearly despise, but there have been very few moves across baseball this year. So while I have no confidence in them to pony up the $$$ and make something happen, there haven’t been really any missed opportunities aside from the Adames deal and who knows if we could have made that work.

I too am angry about the Reds pen, but the Reds did make severel moves to improve it during the season, they just were low cost moves. Some of them worked, like Hembree and Brach, others not so much, but the Reds have been active this season trying to improve the team, nearly every day. They just haven’t spent any money to do it, which has been the core problem since this off season.

Zero credit for their approach to the bullpen. Clearly the strategy was throw enough crap against the wall.

These guys are paid to have a coherent plan, no matter the limitations. Shuffling through absolute dreck while it drags down a pretty good team is not a plan, and there is no credit or solace due.

Look at the data, though. Outside of a horrendous start, the pen has been around league average most of this year, and that is with losing Antone and Simms.

Most teams are having bullpen problems this year, yesterday’s game evidence #1. The Cards pen blew a 5 run lead in the 9th the other day. The Yankees are putting in guys with 10 ERA’s in high leverage situations. It’s difficult to find a team that is happy with it’s pen these days.

    What are you talking about?

The Reds are 29/30 in reliever ERA. They are .01 ERA from worst in baseball.

Slice them numbers however you'd like, but it's been a crap bullpen.

The data says the Reds bullpen has the second worst ERA in the majors, the second most runs surrendered, and the second most home runs surrendered.

Again, since the horrible start, the Reds pen has been around league average. That horrible start will haunt their overall numbers all season long.

Yes, it’s a bad pen, but the front office made moves to improve it and it improved.

4th worst pen since the all star break is league average? They had a decent June for a dumpster fire but there the sole reason this team is not in a playoff support today

Edit: they were actually the worst bullpen in June and had a decent July until the ASB. they've been horrible for two weeks, again. They are not meaningfully improving.

    Exactly. Perfectly worded. 100% inexcusable.

From June 6 to now, the Reds pen ranks 14th in the majors in fWAR.
