When do these guys get assigned and start playing in games?
When do these guys get assigned and start playing in games?
Only 3 players have officially signed all their paperwork, the rest have simply agreed to sign...which is pretty much the same thing.
Western Michigan University outfielder Blake Dunn was the first to actually be assigned, he reported to the Arizona Complex this past Monday. Ashton Creal was promoted to low A Daytona to make room for him.
Sorry if already posted in here somewhere.. When should all the draft picks start their minor league seasons?
Does anyone know if any of the signees have been placed with a team yet?

Jack Rogers, the #Reds 9th round pick out of Sam Houston is making his pro debut tonight. He's the 2nd draftee from the org to make it into a game.
Thanks Doug.

when are these guys going to start playing?
McLain and Ibarra have already started playing. Some of the hitters may yet make it into games.
Somewhere I read that probably none of the pitchers will pitch this year because the draft was held six weeks later than normal, and with the long lay-off, some of the pitchers have not pitched in 6-8 weeks. By the time they get into pitching shape, the minor league season will be over.
I really hope this deal of holding the draft in mid-July is just a one-off pandemic-induced deal and not a yearly thing.

11 of the Reds 25 draftees/non-drafted free agent signees have been assigned to MiLB rosters through today.
1st round pick McLain and 9th round pick Rogers are with high A Dayton, both initially played a few games at ACL first.
4th round pick Ibarra, 13th round pick Trautwein, and 15th round pick Dunn are with low A Daytona, all three initially played a few games at ACL first.
Supplementary round pick Nelson, supplementary round pick Allen, 3rd round pick Torres, 6th round pick Thompson, 18th round pick Callahan, and NDFA signee Jones are with the ACL Reds.
The 11 players of whom have been assigned just so happen to play a position other than pitcher. The 14 players who have yet to be assigned are all pitchers with the exception of NDFA O'Guinn.
There's a good chance the Reds won't be assigning any of those pitchers until next year.
Some more moves:
Supplementary round pick Nelson has been promoted to high A Dayton from the ACL Reds.
3rd round pick Torres has been promoted to low A Daytona from the ACL Reds.
10th round pick Benoit and 19th round pick Cardona have been assigned to the ACL Reds.
Still have 13 players unassigned (10 Draftees and 3 NDFA's), all but 1 are pitchers.
