Props to Elly for hustling out of the box. Man that last sprint from third to home from a standstill had to be sub 3 seconds this kid is a freak of nature lol. Fielders have been put on notice don't lob a throw with LED on the bases.

While the running was amazing, I liked the fact that he hit an absolute rocket to the opposite field side of CF and it nearly went 400 feet….and it looked like he miss hit it.

I like the baseball IQ-- the timing it took to break for home just as the SS was tossing the ball to the 3B is 10-year vet stuff. Some of that is feel; some is just focus. He seems to have both. (Which augers well for his future, IMO.)

Oh yeah. If that were done at the MLB level you’d see it on a 1000 IQ YouTube video.

He looked like he shot out of a cannon out of the box. Impressive all around. Everything he does looks effortless.

The setup is a little different but the lanky build and leg kick on the swing not to mention the tools reminds me a lot of Darryl Strawberry. The guy could be scary good if he tightens up the strike zone judgement just a little bit. I would love to see him have a good rookie year and the Reds throw a Ronald Acuna contract at him to lock him up for a while

    Re: Elly De La Cruz

With tonight’s double and home run, Elly is now OPSing .914 in AA.

Does anyone think he has a shot to make the team out of ST next year? Any chance he goes to Louisville before this season is out? He’s only had 14 games in Chattanooga, just to be clear. But, at least sometimes, he also feels like the Tatis/Soto/Pujols type that could be ready to skip a lot of the upper minors and hit the show now.

Realistically, I think he finishes this year in AA, starts next year in AAA and is called up as soon as he sheds the Super 2 status, likely some time in May. But I’m sure he’ll generate a lot of buzz in Spring Training and if the Reds are smart, they’d start marketing him to the fan base now.

Hard to imagine him outside of anyone’s top 10 rankings for all of baseball at this point. In my mind he’s undoubtedly top 5.

When I watch him there are still some things that concern me offensively. He swings at pitches that make me scratch my head. But man when he gets it right he's on another level. It wouldn't surprise me to see him challenge to make the team next ST. It also wouldn't surprise me to see him struggle a bit once he makes it to the show.

No, he's not ready. He needs to cut down on the strikeouts. Pitch recognition and discipline still need a lot of work. He's incredibly raw still and shouldn't be rushed.

Keep him in AA the rest of the year. Probably start the year there next season too.
