    Elly De La Cruz

19 year old 3B (maybe some SS) for Daytona.

OPSing over 1.000 for the year. Getting a lot of prospect love.

Get in on the ground floor.

3 triples, 4 doubles and 2 home runs in his 16 games so far is pretty cool.

Love hearing the deets on his arm strength and running. Sounds like a prototypical modern 3B type, if he can hit up the ladder.

    Re: Elly De La Cruz

One of the interesting things about the modern minor league system is that we occasionally see the data behind the tools, so to speak. That allows us to determine tool sets much more accurately than even just a few years ago. For example, I remember Nick Senzel being categorized as a 50-55 runner as a prospect. After seeing him run in the minors, I knew that number wasn't reflective of his true speed. Sure enough, when healthy, Senzel has shown sprint speed at the 95th percentile.

Ambiguous tool reports are likely now a thing of the past, for most prospects.

Hit his fourth HR in his 20th low A game today. 1-2 so far on the day.

His late-summer blossoming reminds me a bit of Shed Long and a bit of Neftali Soto.

He’s an exciting prospect. A SH infielder who is young and is tapping into his power in a league probably advanced for him?

    Yes please

How is his first name pronounced? I don't want to start off pronouncing it wrong in my head and having to retrain myself.

Does anyone else get a Jose Siri vibe from him?

    Re: Elly De La Cruz

We may want to consider De La Cruz for the Mace Minor League POD yet again.

Not because he's currently 3-4, raising his A- BA to .291. Not because he hit yet another double-- his 6th in just more than 80 ABs. Not because he hit his fifth Daytona triple. Not because he's a HR short of a cycle. Not because his low A Florida State League OPS is once again over 900. Not because he stole his fourth base of the season while a member of the 'Tugas.

    No.

It's because he took his fourth low A walk.

Yes, De La Cruz has more doubles, triples, and just as many home runs (and just as many stolen bases... and twice as many error-- sigh) in low A than he does walks.

Interestingly, Fangraphs now has Elly ranked as the Reds third best prospect (ahead of Lodolo and McLain) and 73rd overall in all of baseball.

    Woah!
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”
