Moved and merged. This fellow is still in the minors. When/if he is ever called up to the bigs we can talk about him in ORG.

If he keeps it up I imagine next Summer is likely. Elly is doing 1983 Eric Davis things right now and is a year younger than Davis was in 83.

He's at 3B tonight for the second doubleheader game and just made a freakishly good play. He's also 2-3 so far.

Opposite field double he had last inning:

    Re: Elly De La Cruz

I saw him live for the first time on Wed and I left a little less concerned with his K rates. For starters I am guessing they are making him take pitches because on 2 of his AB he took 1st pitch fastballs down the middle. His walk was impressive because he was down 1-2 in the count and took some close pitches to draw the walk. The K he had was a bad swing on a bad pitch but it was also one of the ABs where he was behind in the count by taking pitches. The other thing that stood out is the contact is HARD. The double he hit into the ground 30 ft from home plate and the rebound went over the 1B head. He hit a foul ball in the 9th from the right side I would have loved to have seen the velocity on. Mike Siani could probably weigh in since he was on 3rd and it almost killed him.

It was one game but on a team with other really good prospects (McClain, Strand) he stands out even if you knew nothing about him

I am not saying that this is what they should do, but I don't think the Reds will be able to resist breaking camp without him on the team in 2023.

    Agree that’s a real possibility.

Either way I think it’s hard to imagine he’s not in Cincy by Memorial Day. Same goes for McLain.

MLB Pipeline podcast was talking about Elly and said he may be bigger than his listed 6'5" height.

I wonder if he's maxed out

I think the Reds would do a Kris Bryant and send him to AAA for a few weeks for "development" and then bring him up, so they get the 7th year.

If that's the case then they better go hard this off season by adding some SP, BP, and OF help. I don't want to see a year of Elly wasted like they did with Greene this year. I think they will use the prospect surplus in trades this off season for some MLB/MLB ready talent. It would be nice if they had another Shed Long for Sonny Gray deal up their sleeve.

I hate when teams do this, but in this case the Reds would be dumb to start him in Cincinnati.
