How Long Have You Been Following the Reds ?

I apologize if this has been discussed before but , since I am new to the forum , I am interested in how long our members have been Reds' fans. How long have you been following the Redlegs and when was the first game you ever attended? If you are a fan of another team, feel free to state how long you have been following that team.

My first season of following the Reds was 1970, the year Riverfront opened, the year Rose crashed into Fosse at the ASG at Riverfront, and the year we lost in five games to the Orioles and Brooks Robinson in the World Series. So, this is my 52nd year tuned in to the radio and TV watching my beloved team.

My first game was August 20, 1971 at Riverfront against the Pirates. The Reds won 6-0 , as Ross Grimsley pitched a complete game shutout. Bruce Kison took the loss for the Bucs. We sat way up in the Red seats(nose bleeders) behind home plate. It was one of the greatest days of my life.

I remember as far back as 1977, the year George Foster became the baddest man on the planet, so 44 years.

1976 for me, but they were my second team. I dated the Tigers prior

    1992

I started collecting baseball cards that year and my parents surprised me with tickets to the Reds vs Giants game for my 7th birthday. Went with my dad and grandpa. We went to at least a few games every year after and my interest really picked up mid to late 90s.

1982 for me…a lot of early ho hum funny names for my early years. I caught the end of Bench but team was overwhelmed with Wayne Krenchicki, Dann Billardello, Frank Pastore, Tom Hume. Concepcion was fading and Dan Driessen seemed like the star. Young Nick Esasky and Eddie Milner.

First game was in 1965, but it was late 67 before I figured out the rules and how to understand the stats enough to differentiate the stars from the scrubs. Up until then, they were all just guys in a uniform.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Re: How Long Have You Been Following the Reds ?

1964. We had just moved from Berea OH to Centerville OH. We lived in a rental house for most of the summer and following the Reds was about all I had to do. The pennant race that year was epic with the Reds, Phillies, and Cardinals all tied going into the last game of the season. Reds broke my heart that day but I’ve seen them be World Champions 3 times over now. Pretty good run.

Either late 70s or early 80s, I don't recall exactly when. I remember watching Perez, Bench, Rose, Concepcion, Morgan, etc. But what year that started I couldn't tell you.
