Wow. An absolutely beautiful piece of hitting by Akiyama. Didn’t let the ump get to him in a 1-2 count, and then takes a pitch off the plate (that would’ve been called a strike) the other way for a 2-run double. That is one of the best ab’s I’ve seen this season.

I think with pitchers throwing harder and with more movement than ever before, umpires just can't physically see the ball anymore -- through no fault of their own.

I believe that 3rd strike to Naquin was accurate. The overhead camera showed it over the plate. The box is only two dimensions on the front edge of the plate. The true strikezone covers the whole volume over the plate from the knees to the top. Other video sources do a much better job of displaying it more correctly. I believe the pitch broke into the volume over the back corner.
